Actress Evangeline Lilly is facing some health challenges as she enters the New Year, recently taking to social media to update fans about an ongoing battle with a brain injury.
“I’m entering into this New Year, the Year of the Horse, with some bad news about my concussion,” she began.
Last year, Lilly got a concussion after fainting at a beach when she hit her head on a bolder.
She continued, “A lot of you asked how I’m doing. A lot of you have inquired about the brain scans that you heard I got, and the results came back from the scans, and almost every area in my brain is functioning at a decreased capacity.”
The ANT-MAN AND THE WASP star said that she has “brain damage from the TBI and possibly other factors going on, but now my job is to get to the bottom of that with the doctors, and then embark on the hard work of fixing it.”
A TBI, or traumatic brain injury, “results from a violent blow or jolt to the head or body,” according to the Mayo Clinic. They state, “Traumatic brain injury can have wide-ranging physical and psychological effects. Some signs or symptoms may appear immediately after the traumatic event, while others may appear days or weeks later.”
Despite the difficult circumstances, Lilly chooses to see the positives.
“[It] has helped me to slow down and helped me to have a more restful finish to my 2025. I think this was the calmest, most restful Christmas holiday I have had, maybe since I had children, so 14 years ago,” she said.
She added, “That’s a good thing, feeling extraordinarily grateful and blessed to be able to play one more day, one more year on this beautiful living planet.”
In the caption, she thanked her fans for “always asking, for always caring, and for your continued prayers.”
Back in May 2025, THE HOBBIT actress shared about the incident in a post to Instagram.
“I fainted at the beach. And fell face first into a boulder. At the hospital, the nurses and doctor went straight into action, more determined to find the cause of my blackout than to stitch up the hole punctured into my face by the rock,” she said.
People in the comment section wished the actress well.
“I sincerely hope everything’s gonna be ok. You’re an infinite inspiration, you see the light even in the darkest moments! Thank you for sharing your story with us,” one person said. Another person added, “Sending healing prayers your way.”
We’re praying for a smooth recovery and healing process for Lilly.
