The History Channel’s follow-up series to the popular nonfiction show THE BIBLE is tentatively titled THE BIBLE REVEALED.

“THE BIBLE REVEALED reaffirms our mission to tell globally significant stories with depth and integrity and this series offers an opportunity to revisit these powerful stories in a fresh, compelling way for both long-time viewers and new generations,” Eli Lehrer, EVP & Head of Programming at The History Channel, said in a statement.

He continued, “We are proud to continue our legacy of producing premium documentary programming that explores the texts and traditions that have shaped our world. This is storytelling with reverence, scale, and vision — exactly the kind of project our audiences expect from us.”

The 10-hour series will feature expert commentary from scholars and theologians as it explores topics like the Great Flood, the 10 Plagues and the Garden of Eden.

Per an official synopsis of the show from Deadline, THE BIBLE REVEALED will “discuss the mysteries of Genesis to the epic of Exodus, examining these enduring stories in a way that is immersive, informed, and emotionally powerful.”

The History Channel’s THE BIBLE was produced by actress Roma Downey and her husband Mark Burnett.

“We felt it was very important to tell the story in a way that brought deep emotional connection with people,” Downey told Christianity Today. “The characters in the Bible are us, in many ways. The challenges they face; their love, hopes, dreams — we can all relate to them.”

She continued, “It is important to make the connection with the heart. It is through the heart that we embrace God. And we found this was the thread through the whole story, through the entire Bible: the cohesive tissue is the amazing love that God has for us, most evident in the birth and life of Jesus Christ and the power of his resurrection.”

“For many years I have tried to step into work that would be pleasing to God. I was so fortunate to deliver a message of God’s love on TOUCHED BY AN ANGEL for almost 10 years,” Downey explained. “It is now such a privilege to be a part of this extraordinary Bible series. I am a person of faith, but being part of this project has deepened my faith.”

“Our greatest hope is that this series will affect a new generation of viewers and draw them back to the Bible,” Burnett added.

Fans of THE BIBLE are excited to see The History Channel return to scripture, exploring some of the greatest stories ever told on screen once more.
