Hollywood Needs This Redemption Movie

Hollywood Needs This Redemption Movie

By David Outten, Production Editor, with Tom Snyder, Editor

Hollywood loves to spend millions of dollars making movies about disasters. Disaster is very photogenic, especially now since earthquakes and tidal waves can be created so beautifully and realistically with computer graphics. In fact, it’s not uncommon to see Hollywood itself bite the dust.

What if, however, someone made a movie about a great revival sweeping across Hollywood?

Instead of 500-foot waves sweeping in from the Pacific, a tremendous move of the Spirit of God sweeps in from Heaven.

Let the movie begin with a little old grandmother in St. Cloud, Florida praying for a major entertainment corporation CEO known for making some of the world’s most vulgar movies mocking Christianity. Let that executive have a conversion experience similar to Paul in the New Testament. Let him set some standards for his corporation that exemplify his desire to see God’s will done on earth as it is in heaven. Let him announce on ENTERTAINMENT TONIGHT he’s dropping from his schedule all vulgar comedies, horror shows and revenge movies. Let him pledge to make entertainment free of vulgarity, promiscuity and drug abuse, to promote encouragement instead of vulgarity, action instead of violence, and romance instead of sex.

Do you think this might result in some conflict in his corporation and in Southern California?

Imagine that the major news network run by his corporation is transformed. A whole new staff is hired. Instead of promoting the sexual revolution, it boldly exposes its horrible results. Instead of attacking traditional moral values, it shows their value to society. The network’s sitcoms and reality shows suddenly reveal the benefits of honesty, integrity and purity.

For many millions of people around the world, such an event would be cause for tremendous celebration. For others it would look worse than an earthquake.

Can you even imagine the fury of those who’d hate this kind of transformation?

Movies thrive on conflict. Typically, a hero makes a commitment to pursue something and strikes out on his adventure. He meets and deals with opposition. At the midpoint of the movie, the opposition gains the upper hand and drives the hero to the brink of defeat. Then the hero summons his last measure of devotion and figures out a clever and exciting way to successfully defeat his opponent.

Imagine such a story with our major entertainment corporation CEO taking on the sexual revolution. Imagine the resolution being our hero being joined by other executives as well as producers, directors, actors, and crewmembers who once opposed morality.

Just imagine how many people would love to see this movie. If well made, it could be worldwide box office phenomena.

Imagine it wasn’t just a movie, however. Imagine if it actually happened.

What if one of America’s major entertainment corporation CEOs was truly inspired by God to use his life to see, “Thy kingdom come, on earth, as it is in heaven?”

“As it is in heaven,” means God wants human beings to want to do what’s right and healthy. In heaven no one’s arrested for crimes. No one wants to commit them. Heaven is not a “big brother,” Gestapo state. It’s a big Father state. God the Father lavishes his love and blessing on his adoring children, through His Son, Jesus Christ. What God wants on earth is adoring, obedient children.

Imagine a revival in Hollywood where executives, producers, directors, actors and crewmembers became adoring, obedient children of God through Jesus.

You’d hear a lot less vulgarity. You’d see a lot less promiscuous sex. You’d see fewer movies about revenge and more movies about forgiveness. The tabloids would have fewer Hollywood divorces to report.

What would be the worldwide result of such a redemptive change in values?

The mass media clearly has a major influence on our culture and its most vulnerable people, our children and grandchildren. Imagine a culture with less vulgarity, promiscuous sex and revenge. Imagine a culture with more kindness, forgiveness, generosity, honesty and integrity. Imagine a culture with fewer divorces, unwed births, murders, robberies, rapes, riots, and scams.

Many millions of people would love to see a good HOLLYWOOD REDEEMED movie. Many more would just like to see Hollywood itself redeemed.

The good news is that MOVIEGUIDE® is doing just that. We are doing it in two ways:

1. By influencing Hollywood’s filmmakers and television creators to adopt higher standards according to biblical principles, including making more family-friendly movies and television programs with Godly virtues and more movies and television programs about God, Jesus Christ, Christian faith, biblical heroes and heroines, Christian leaders, important church movements, etc.

2. By informing and equipping the public, especially families with children and people of faith, including training children and students to be media wise, to choose the good and reject the bad.

We have been using this strategy for 30 years now, and we have had tremendous success over the years, praise the LORD.

For example, since we began using biblical principles to redeem the values of Hollywood in 1985, the number of movies with at least some Christian, redemptive content pointing to Jesus Christ and His Gospel has increased from only a few, less than 2%, to more than 62%.

Included in such movies are such great titles as THE LION, THE WITCH AND THE WARDROBE, UNBROKEN, SOUL SURFER, GOD’S NOT DEAD, FACING THE GIANTS, THE BLIND SIDE, FROZEN, LES MISÉRABLES, MY BIG FAT GREEK WEDDING, AMAZING GRACE, SON OF GOD, EVELYN, SPIDER-MAN 3, THE PASSION OF THE CHRIST, I AM LEGEND, COURAGEOUS, FIREPROOF, THE LORD OF THE RINGS, INDIANA JONES AND THE LAST CRUSADE, UP, and HEAVEN IS FOR REAL.

There are also a whole lot more choices today for families who want to inspire their children by giving them good, wholesome, redemptive entertainment with very little or no objectionable content.

The Hollywood Revival Train has already left the station. Hurry up, and hop aboard!
