How Dennis Quaid’s Faith Impacts His Marriage
By Movieguide® Contributor
Dennis Quaid credits God for his marriage, believing that having faith at the center of his relationship with his wife is what makes their bond so special.
“I wasn’t looking for it, and she came along, and it’s God [that] put us together,” Quaid told Fox News Digital.
Quaid and his wife, Laura Savoie, tied the knot in June 2020 after meeting at a business event a year earlier.
Though the couple has received criticism over their 39-year age gap, Quaid doesn’t see it as an issue. Instead, he focuses on the life they’ve built together and their plans for the future.
“I haven’t spoken about the age difference of my wife. Other people have. But…I really don’t think about it,” he said. “She’s got so much going on that, you know, I just don’t notice it. She’s just, she’s the light of my life.”
“You have no control over who you fall in love with,” he explained in 2019. “I don’t fall in love easily. But I can’t let what a few people think control all that. I’ve been married three times and this is the final one, I know it is. I feel like I have a real partner in life.”
A major reason that Quaid’s current relationship is different from those of the past is because it is centered around God.
“God is in my wife and I’s relationship, and it’s another thing that I never really had before,” Quaid told Extra last year. “She and I have such a beautiful relationship, and we pray together.”
The actor’s marriage isn’t the only thing that has been touched by his relationship with Christ. He also credits the Lord for his longstanding sobriety.
“It [was] a struggle,” he told PEOPLE. “We’re all looking for the joy of life, and drugs give that to you and alcohol and whatever it is for anybody give that to you really quick. Then they’re fun and then they’re fun with problems, and then they’re just problems after a while. That’s really what we’re looking for, the joy of life, which is our gift, actually, the relationship with God that we all have. It’s at the bottom of it, the joy of being alive.”
Movieguide® previously reported on Quaid’s sobriety:
Actor Dennis Quaid recently revealed how finding faith in Christ saved him from addiction and has continued to be the foundation of his life since then.
In an interview with PEOPLE, Quaid revealed how his struggle with addiction early in his career motivated him to return to his Christian roots.
“I was in a band,” he added, “and we got a record gig… They broke up the night they got it, and they broke up because of me, because I was not reliable.”
“I remember going home and having kind of a white light experience that I saw myself either dead or in jail or losing everything I had, and I didn’t want that,” he recalled.
