How This AMERICAN IDOL Alum Wants to Embody the Traits of Jesus

Danny Gokey’s song “Wannabe” is all about embodying the traits of Jesus.

“Which of God’s qualities do you most ‘wannabe’ like? ??,” Gokey shared to a clip of the song. “I’m so grateful for His infinite love, patience & kindness and it makes me wanna live like Him! ??????”

“Wannabe” is one Gokey’s songs on his new album, Sound of Heaven. The record carries music that speaks to the themes of joy, glorifying God, being like him and declaring good over evil.

Some of the lyrics of “Wannabe” are:

I wanna, I wanna be more, more like You

I wanna, I wanna be more, more like truth

Losing every time I do it my way

So I wanna do it Yahweh

I wanna, I wanna be more, more like love

I wanna be living life with my hands up (ooh)

I don’t ever wanna do it my way (my way)

I wanna do it Yahweh (woo)

“I believe the ‘Sound of Heaven’ is as diverse as all of God’s creation. Some people think it’s one-dimensional with just angels singing with harps, but it’s way more than that. It’s full of joy, where all creation in Heaven and Earth comes together and makes a beautiful sound,” the “I Got You” singer said. “To me, there’s no greater joy than us getting to participate in the ‘Sound of Heaven’ by glorifying Him with our lives here on Earth.”

Gokey’s hope for the album is that his music touches his listeners “just the way they need it!”

Movieguide® reported last month:

“The phrase ‘Sound of Heaven,’ and each of the songs on this album, will mean different things to different people in different places of life, and I believe that each of these songs communicate the hopeful messages of heaven in ways that will speak to people – whatever their season of life,” Gokey shared in a statement about the project.

Air1 said the album isn’t all about worship — that’s just one stroke in Gokey’s painting.

“Gokey didn’t set out to craft a one-dimensional record; he set out to capture the sound of the hereafter,” Air1 said. “And if eternity is a diverse collection of colors, cultures and tones, then Gokey’s ‘Sound of Heaven’ paints a pretty accurate picture of what’s to come. The singer/songwriter’s new offering delivers an eclectic mix of everything that makes him a multifaceted artist.”
