Grammy-nominated Christian artist Jamie Grace puts a different spin on what some might see as a setback, reminding us to “find the hope and potential” in every situation.
“With change, it’s natural and okay to feel disappointment — I feel those things, too,” she wrote in a recent Instagram post. “We just kicked off the first weekend of my first tour in 7 years and as you may have heard…we’ve rescheduled a few dates to make this tour a reality. To be honest, I was a bit embarrassed about that…for a while.”
Grace explained that, as an artist, “It’s not ‘normal’ to talk about things like ticket sales or radio play — unless you’re ‘winning.’ We’re celebrated for the highs but the challenging moments are kept quiet until we win again.”
However, she enjoys “celebrating the small wins” behind the scenes, working to “create art that connects with others and a live show experience that does as well.”
“I’m a fully independent, self-produced, self-funded artist,” Grace wrote. “There was a season I worked with big teams and big names and God did so many beautiful things that only He can — and He’s still doing beautiful things now. It’s simply — a little different. I work with a ‘small but mighty’ crew whose knowledge, wisdom and support not only help me make the difficult ‘indie artist’ decisions, but whose encouragement and collaboration carry the big and small dreams from start to finish.”
She continued, “Even in the pivot as a result of the unpredictable, I somehow try to find the hope and potential. And in the worry and the waiting, I’m here to write songs for all of those moments as long as you’ll have me. Thank you for singing with me, dancing with me — for dreaming with me. I truly can’t wait to see you soon.”
Grace has been sharing her excitement for the tour, which kicked off earlier this month, on Instagram.
“I’ve been telling my story for 19 years and i don’t plan on stopping anytime soon,” she shared. “Strength…Grace…joy…Hope…these things don’t always come when the storm is over. They quite often show up on the heaviest days, wading alongside you with empathy and intention that is greater than pain. Can’t wait to sing these songs again with y’all.”
For Grace, performing also draws her closer to God. In an interview with Movieguide®, she said there’s a “really cool, spiritual component” to her live shows and that, “when I’m really pressed into what God has for me,” she can forget other worries or anxieties.
Grace has previously spoken about the role her faith has played in her life, specifically during a time of serious depression. She told PureFlix she felt like she was in a tunnel, waiting to come out into the light.
“It’s about realizing that, even when you’re in the midst of the tunnel, God is reaching in there and He’s saying, ‘I’m not about to make it perfect. I didn’t say I was about to make it easy,’” she explained. “Jesus was saying …‘I’m going to reach in in the middle of that despair; I’m going to be there with you through it.’”
Grace added, “My joy was not something that I had to wait for the pain to end. My joy was something that even though my pain was so great, God’s joy was even greater.”
Grace’s recent post is a reminder that many setbacks are actually something to be celebrated, whether it’s a milestone you reached or the hard work you put in.
