Jenny Marrs Shares ‘Loving And Meaningful’ Family Tradition

By Movieguide® Contributor

Jenny Marrs is sharing the “loving and meaningful” tradition that takes place at her family’s table.

“At our dinner table each evening, we play the question game. We take turns asking questions and choosing someone to answer,” she wrote in a recent Instagram post. “One of my favorite questions is very simple: ‘Tell us one thing you love about the person sitting to your left.’”

Marrs shared some of the “honest and gentle” answers her family members give, from working hard at school to taking care of the family’s animals.

“As I watch the recipient of the affirming words, I witness the subtle shift in their eyes as they take in the truths spoken over them,” she continued. “Their eyes always begin downcast and uncomfortable because waiting to hear what someone you love thinks about you is a vulnerable position to be in. Then, they eventually look up and directly at the person speaking about them. That’s when I see it: their eyes have changed. They are no longer nervous and shy; instead they have become bright and bold.”

Marrs concluded, “This is exactly what the table is for: a place to expose our most honest self and, in return, receive the gift of being cared for in loving and meaningful ways.”

The post is an excerpt from Marrs’ upcoming book, “House + Home = Love,” which will be available November 14.

“I didn’t want to write a standard how-to guide for decorating or renovating your home,” she said about the book. “There are enough beautiful and well-written books on the subject out there already. And, honestly, I don’t believe there is a one-size-fits-all guide that accounts for personal style and preference. Instead, I wanted to write a book to encourage you to be creative with your home.”

A description of “House + Home = Love” from Penguin Random House reads, “Alongside gorgeous photos of the Marrs’ restored farmhouse, their delightful kids, and many other spaces they’ve reimagined, Jenny and Dave share their personal journey of establishing their own home, an ever-growing family and a busy, sustainable business. Woven throughout are wonderful essays by Jenny about their lives on the Marrs farm and how they seek to live intentionally with a deep abiding faith and purpose.”

Movieguide® previously reported on the Marrs family’s Christmas traditions:

Jenny Marrs, host of HGTV’s FROM FIXER TO FABULOUS, has started posting her Christmas snapshots on Instagram, sharing some of her favorite faith-filled traditions in the process.

In one post, she quoted Ann Voskamp’s “Unwrapping Christmas the Greatest Gift.”

“My favorite advent tradition is our Jesse tree. We’ve done this for years and it’s surreal to have the kiddos reading to me now. I love hearing them speak aloud big Truths of God’s great love,” Marrs wrote with a heart emoji.
