Lecrae Talks Onscreen Debut, New Podcast to Communicate Hope

Christian artist Lecrae, who recently made his on-screen debut in JOURNEY TO BETHLEHEM, wants to make a mark on the entertainment industry.

The Grammy Award-winning artist also announced a new podcast, which he prays will help him communicate his message of hope.

“I’ve been praying and asking the Lord, how would you like to use me this season? Along with, ‘What should I be doing with my time?’” he told Christian Headlines. “I realized I am a communicator who uses music as a form of expression. So, whether it’s a book, movie, or music, I want to communicate.”

Lecrae made his onscreen debut as the angel Gabriel in JOURNEY TO BETHLEHEM.

“I’ve always looked for opportunities,” the artist explained. “I put that feeler out there, and a friend of mine said, ‘Hey, there’s an opportunity for you to audition for the JOURNEY TO BETHLEHEM movie.’ I went into that audition completely unprepared. I thought that I could coast. It was much harder than I thought. They gave me a chance to hire an acting coach and try out again. The second time, I got the role.”

Lecrae shared that he “had to start digging into the Scriptures about Gabriele’s role,” adding, “I wanted to make sure I could capture the powerful part of Scripture and the importance of Gabriel.”

In an Instagram post about the movie’s premiere, Lecrae wrote that he was “ honored and blown away,” by the response to the movie, adding, “The film is great for the whole family.”

JOURNEY TO BETHLEHEM is a great musical with lots of jeopardy and some funny comic relief to lighten the mood. The songs are really good, and so are the performances. Although this is a musical version of the Nativity Story, the filmmakers treat the birth of Jesus with the proper reverence it deserves. The script and song lyrics refer to Jesus as Lord, the Son of God, the Messiah, King of all kings, Immanuel, and “God with us.” JOURNEY TO BETHLEHEM is one of the most enjoyable, uplifting movies of 2023.

Lecrae is also looking forward to growing his podcast, DEEP END WITH LECRAE, in the coming year, saying, “My cousin, podcaster Tim Ross, suggested I look into it. I realized that it was something I wanted to do. I can’t wait to debut what I’ve been working on.”

A description of the show reads, “This show is not about perfect people or people who’ve never made mistakes. This show is for the rest of us who are just trying to pick up the pieces and find a way forward with vulnerability and honesty.”
