By Movieguide® Contributor
You’ll finally be able to watch the record-breaking animated movie INSIDE OUT 2 from home later this month!
Fans can purchase INSIDE OUT 2 for $29.99 or rent it for $24.99 on video platforms such as Apple TV and Prime Video, starting on Tuesday, Aug. 20. If you still prefer to watch DVDs, physical copies of the film will release Sept. 10, available in 4K Ultra HD and 4K Steelbook.
The film is directed by Kelsey Mann and follows Riley, now a teenager, who is learning how to deal with her emotions.
It sees “Riley (voiced by Kensington Tallman) going through puberty and all of the new and more complex emotions that come with development — including Anxiety (Maya Hawke), Envy (Ayo Edebiri), Ennui (Adèle Exarchopoulos) and Embarrassment (Paul Walter Hauser). She must make a decision to stay friends with her junior high classmates or ditch them for older high school kids at a summer hockey camp for girls.”
Not only is the movie among the high-grossing animated films of all time, but it recently reached a new milestone, as Movieguide® reported:
INSIDE OUT 2 was already one of the top 10 animated movies ever, but it just hit a new milestone. The family-friendly flick just broke into the top 10 highest-grossing movies of all time.
Deadline reported that the film hit, “$1.524B global ($1,523.9M) through Wednesday, [and] the sequel has cruised past FURIOUS 7 ($1.515B) and THE AVENGERS ($1.521B) to land the No. 10 spot on the all-time chart.”
Domestically, the film reached $618.8M as of July 31.
Thanks to its family-friendly values, INSIDE OUT 2 currently holds the No. 1 spot at the 2024 box office.
Movieguide® praised its “Very strong moral worldview with some redemptive elements. [It] promotes doing the right thing, controlling your emotions, [and] caring for your friends.”
“INSIDE OUT 2’s success is definitive proof that Movieguide®’s advocacy work impacts Disney,” says Robby Baehr, Movieguide® CEO. “This is the first movie Pixar has released in years that doesn’t flaunt an immoral agenda. Instead, because of our Annual Report to the Entertainment Industry, Disney and Pixar chose to cater to families and focus on positive, uplifting messages, and it’s already paying out dividends.
