BLUE BLOODS spinoff BOSTON BLUE just added another new face to its cast. Maggie Lawson, best known for her role as Detective Juliet O’Hara on PSYCH, will be a regular on the upcoming show.
“Honored and excited to be a part of this family. 🙏💙 @cbstv,” Lawson celebrated on Instagram. She’ll play Superintendent of the Boston Police Department Sarah Silver who is “well aware of the tightrope she can walk sometimes between her job and her family.”
People in the comment section congratulated her on the role. “Congrats Maggie! A fantastic choice! Can’t wait to watch you and the cast,” one fan said. Another person added, “LETS GOOO! so so thrilled for you mags!! 👏💙”
BOSTON BLUE will see BLUE BLOODS alum Donnie Wahlberg return as Danny Reagan.
Sonequa Martin-Green will play Reagan’s partner and Sarah Silver’s stepsister, Detective Lena Silver. Ernie Hudson will play Reverend Peters, “the powerful patriarch of the family and the preacher behind the pulpit at a historic Baptist church within the city.”
Wahlberg shared his excitement for the upcoming show on Instagram.
“So excited to carry on the tradition, to share so many surprises, to answer some unanswered questions and to welcome all of you — to #BostonBlue! The next chapter in the #BlueBloods legacy begins. I can’t wait. See you CBS fall! 💙❤️” he posted on March 25.

Since its announcement, though, fans have wondered if any BLUE BLOODS stars will appear in BOSTON BLUE. According to an insider, Wahlberg is fighting specifically for Tom Selleck to have a part.
“Donnie is an old-school loyal guy, he’s going to fight for Tom to get a piece of the action,” the insider told Closer Weekly. “He and Tom are still very close, they talk all the time and Donnie is well aware that Tom was not happy about Blue Bloods getting canceled.”
The insider added, “Tom isn’t leaning on him or demanding anything of him, he’s got a movie in the works and is way too proud to beg. But Donnie wants to do this for him, not only because it’s the right thing to do, but also because he loves working with Tom.”
BLUE BLOODS ended in December 2024 after 14 seasons. Although the main reason for its cut was financial, both fans and cast members were devastated. BOSTON BLUE gives viewers another chance to see at least part of the Reagan family in action.
