Tom Holland’s fourth SPIDER-MAN installment, SPIDER-MAN: BRAND NEW DAY, just secured its villain.

Deadline reported that Marvin Jones III will play Tombstone. He voiced this character in the animated movies SPIDER-MAN: INTO THE SPIDER-VERSE and SPIDER-MAN: BEYOND THE SPIDER-VERSE.

Tombstone arrived on the comic scene in March of 1988, created by artist Alex Saviuk and writer Gerry Conway. The character was featured in the issue titled “Web of Spider-Man” and is described as “a massive African-American albino crime boss and enforcer with filed teeth and near-indestructible skin.”

Alongside Holland and Jones, the movie will star Zendaya as MJ and Jacob Batalon as Ned. Jon Bernthal joins the cast as Frank Castle/The Punisher. Mark Ruffalo’s The Hulk is also rumored to appear.

BRAND NEW DAY filming was put on pause earlier this week though after Holland suffered a concussion during a stunt gone wrong. He was taken to the hospital and has spent the week recovering. Filming is set to resume Sept. 29.

The actor is thrilled to be back in the suit, sharing how filming feels different this time around.

“It’s day one — my fourth-ever day one on SPIDER-MAN. You know, it’s funny. Putting the suit on, it feels different this time, somehow,” Holland said in a clip last month. “It’s also the first time we’ve ever had fans on set for day one, so it’s really exciting to share this with them. We’ve got some familiar faces on set. You know, I’m just going to do my best, hopefully get it right. No pressure.”

2021’s SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME opened to rave reviews and massive box office success.

Movieguide®’s review of the film reads, “As the movie opens, Peter and his friends, MJ and Ned, are suffering the consequences of Mysterio’s lies from the last SPIDER-MAN movie. Because of the controversy Mysterio created, none of them are accepted into any colleges, including their first choice, MIT. Always thinking about his friends, Peter asks Dr. Strange for a spell to make everyone forget Peter Parker is Spider-Man. However, the spell goes wrong and starts bringing supervillains from other universes into Peter’s world.”

The review notes that this film “is filled with fun surprises and twists, plus lots of action” and “has a strong moral, redemptive premise that everyone deserves a second chance, even supervillains.”

SPIDER-MAN: BRAND NEW DAY will see Peter Parker try “to focus on college and leave Spider-Man behind. But when a new threat endangers his friends, he must break his promise and suit up again, teaming with an unexpected ally to protect those he loves.”

It is set to release July 31, 2026.
