Media Mogul Says He Finds His Worth in God
By Movieguide® Contributor
Tyler Perry explained how understanding you are worthy of God’s love allows you to have the joyful life that fear, and self-doubt can rob.
“If you live in a place where you don’t feel worthy, then you can’t allow any good thing to come into your life,” Perry told TBN. “Every good thing, you find a way to self-sabotage it in the back of your mind. You might be saying, ‘Oh yes, I want this for sure.’ But that unworthiness – and that comes from something mama said, or daddy said, or childhood, or bullying, or abuse, so you can carry all of that into adulthood and you don’t feel worthy.”
“And I, in searching my own motivations, I realized very early on, that I wasn’t – that I didn’t think I was worthy – until I learned in the word that I’m worthy because God says you’re worthy,” he continued. “If God gave you the breath in your body, then that makes you worthy.”
“And just that alone took a lot of the guilt out of it for me, you know? And understanding that His thoughts towards us are pure, and to give us hope,” Perry added. You know, those things are very, very important… Get to worthy, let worthy be the focus. That doesn’t mean you’re arrogant, that doesn’t mean you’re cocky, what it means is that you believe what God says about you.”
Perry had many reasons to feel unworthy as he entered into his adult years. He grew up in an abusive home and lived in an area where cycles of drug abuse, poverty and violence was expected. However, he also grew up with a mother who knew the Lord and who walked him through a personal relationship with Jesus. This relationship would end up giving him the confidence to break free of his circumstances and find a way out of those deadly cycles.
After finding the Lord and placing his identity in who God says he is, one of the first things Perry did was confront his father and work to find healing.

This forgiveness caused another transformation in his life as he let go of all of his anger and frustration, allowing love and peace to flood his heart. Realizing that it is only through Christ that he has found the success he has, Perry uses his platform to point others towards Christ and help them find the joy and healing he has enjoyed.

Producer, director, actor, screenwriter and author Tyler Perry shared an inspirational message about overcoming anxiety on PRAISE ON TBN.
“So, what do you do with anxiety?” Perry began. “You climb and maintain. You pray, you maintain. You worship and you pray.”
“All you have to do to get rid of anxiety is pray and worship,” Perry continued.
Perry also shared how people can use the Bible to fight anxiety.
He illustrated this, citing the story of Abraham when God commanded him to sacrifice his son. Although Abraham obeyed, he must have felt an immense amount of anxiety.
“It’s a very difficult place when you know that you’ve got anxiety all over you,” Perry continued. “So, as I look at this text and I see Isaac wondering is he the sacrifice, I came here to tell you that you are not the sacrifice. God did not bring you this far to leave you. You are not about to die. You are not about to lose everything. You are not the sacrifice.”
Just as God provided a sacrifice in place of Isaac, God sent his son Jesus as a sacrifice to take our place.
