“We developed this app because parents need to know what their children are watching,” said Movieguide® CEO Robby Baehr. “Now more than ever, Hollywood wants to push agendas on our children that aren’t appropriate for them. Movieguide®’s app will help moms and dads determine whether or not their kids should actually watch mainstream entertainment and give them great alternatives that will build up their kids’ faith.”

From movie and TV show reviews to articles about the entertainment industry to what-to-watch lists, Movieguide® gives families the inside scoop on all things faith, family and Hollywood.
Movieguide®’s unique reviews evaluate movies and show for both their quality and acceptability.
“Quality Ratings refer to the production values in the movie, the entertainment quality of the production, and whether the movie fulfills what it tries to do,” Movieguide® explains. Quality is ranked on a scale of * to ****, though receiving four stars doesn’t necessarily mean it’s a movie to watch, just that it has a high production value.
Acceptability ratings, on the other hand, “take into account cognitive stages of development in children and teenagers, moral issues and theological issues [and] help parents (fathers and mothers) with children and the media-wise adult viewer. Acceptability Ratings are based on a traditional view of the Bible and Christianity.”
By combining the two, along with many other criteria like levels of violence, language, sexual content and dominant worldviews, Movieguide® gives parents a great snapshot of a movie or show so that they can decide if it’s something for their family.
