Paramount+ just dropped Showtime from its streaming service title — what does that mean for subscribers?
“On June 23, we updated the name of our ad-free plan from Paramount+ with SHOWTIME to Paramount+ Premium,” a notice published to the Paramount+ website announced. “Since we recently introduced a sampling of SHOWTIME programming to the Essential plan, the Premium plan name reflects the broad and diverse offerings across both plan tiers.”
The notice explained that Showtime’s programming is still “an important part of Paramount+, and is still prominently represented on the service!”
Some users worried that this might mean a price change to their monthly subscription but, as Deadline reported, “The rebrand is not being accompanied by any pricing changes. Paramount+ Premium remains $12.99 a month, with the Essential tier still at $7.99.”
Paramount+ With Showtime is now called Paramount+ Premium.
The pricing of the package remains the same: It still costs $12.99 per month or $119.99 per year.https://t.co/egmwwk3IG5

Paramount+ isn’t the only streaming service that has recently gone through some name changes.
Warner Bros. Discovery recently announced that their platform, Max, would be renamed HBO Max. This change was also accompanied by the news that WBD will split into two different companies — Streaming & Studios, which will consist of Warner Bros. Television, Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group, DC Studios, HBO and HBO Max, and their movie and TV libraries, and Global Networks, which will cover their entertainment, sports, and news brands, like CNN, TNT Sports and Discovery.

“The cultural significance of this great company and the impactful stories it has brought to life for more than a century have touched countless people all over the world,” David Zaslav, President and CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery, said in a statement.
He continued, “It’s a treasured legacy we will proudly continue in this next chapter of our celebrated history. By operating as two distinct and optimized companies in the future, we are empowering these iconic brands with the sharper focus and strategic flexibility they need to compete most effectively in today’s evolving media landscape.”
Zaslav will serve as CEO of Streaming & Studios. Gunnar Wiedenfels, CFO of Warner Bros. Discovery, will become President and CEO of Global Networks.
“This separation will invigorate each company by enabling them to leverage their strengths and specific financial profiles. This will also allow each company to pursue important investment opportunities and drive shareholder value,” Wiedenfels added.
As streaming services work to boost their subscriber numbers, users can probably expect more name changes and shuffling partnerships in the future.
