John Luke is the son of Willie and Korie Robertson.

The younger Robertsons announced their pregnancy in May.

Mary Kate chronicled her pregnancy journey and reminisced on family on her blog, The Little Duck Wife:

“I don’t think I’ve ever been more appreciative of my own mom and John Luke’s mom than I am now. They’ve been helping and encouraging and loving us so well, and then, all our grandmothers and the older women in my life, and wow I think I’ve gotten to watch some of the best mamas in the world!”

John Luke’s sister Sadie was in Atlanta with her fiancé but quickly returned to Louisiana when John Shepherd arrived.

Sadie posted to Instagram:

“Getting to bring my mom and John Luke coffee the next morning after they slept in the hospital was the greatest joy and getting to sit with my family waiting for the news that he is here was a moment we will both never forget! Mary Kate was a rockstar, John Luke was the sweetest, and John Shepherd is the cutest thing in the world. ♥️”

Christian and I spent his fall break in Louisiana and had literally just landed in Atlanta when we got a text that @marykaterob was in labor! WE WERE SO EXCITED & also so bummed we had just left! I got quiet for a while as we left the ATL airport & asked him if we could go to Waffle House (cause it just seemed like the right moment) 🙃 While we ate our extra crispy waffle (pro-tip) we got word it would be at least 12 hours until the baby came. We looked at each other with the same thought and next thing we knew we were laughing historically running to the car to head back to Louisiana. 7 hour drive back to where we just flew from.🤪 🏃‍♂️🏃‍♀️ kinda crazy but it was absolute best memory. Getting to bring my mom and John Luke coffee the next morning after they slept in the hospital was the greatest joy and getting to sit with my family waiting for the news that he is here was a moment we will both never forget! Mary Kate was a rockstar, John Luke was the sweetest, and John Shepherd is the cutest thing in the world. ♥️ Fun story : When christian and I were getting to know each other he came up to Nashville for our 1st offical date after 2 months of talking over the phone. After lunch we were about to leave when I saw a pottery place in the same building and said, “that would be so fun can we go paint?!?” without a hesitation we walked in and got to painting some mugs. It was the first time we sat and laughed together sharing fun family story’s. Honestly, I have always said that’s the minute I knew I wanted to date him. I saw he was go-with-the-flow, flexible, had fun (even if he didn’t know what he was doing), and he loved memories with his family. ♥️ I think back to that first date as i look at this picture from the week and I realize that his willingness required the same character and quality’s he showed me the day I realized I liked him. no hesitation • flexible • had fun even though he didn’t know what he was doing • laughed a lot making a memory together with our family! ♥️ Be intentional about what you are looking for in the person you want to spend your whole life with! I couldn’t ask for a better like partner👫
