TALL GIRL follows a teenager named Jodi who has always felt awkward with her height, but, when a tall Swedish exchange student comes to school, she suddenly isn’t so self-conscious. A television movie on Netflix, TALL GIRL has a strong moral worldview with positive elements, but does have one scene with teenagers partying and some cursing.

Jodi has always felt out of place, ever since she was a child, because she grew so much taller than the other kids. Now at 16-years-old, she’s a whopping 6-foot-1-inch and feels exceptionally self-conscious. The other students constantly come up to her and make jokes to her about her height.

When a foreign exchange student from Sweden comes to Jodi’s school, Jodi is excited because he’s the first guy she’s met who’s actually taller than she is. Instantly, Jodi falls for Stig. She’s not the only one, though, to swoon over Stig. The most popular girl in school, Kimmy, also has her eyes set on the Swede. Kimmy has always been a bully to Jodi, and now Kimmy is latching on to Stig, even though Stig has an interest in Jodi. All along, Jodi’s best friend, Jack, has liked Jodi since they were very young. The issue, though, is that Jack is shorter than Jodi.

Will Jodi be able to do well in high school, even though she’s very insecure with her height? Will Stig see something in Jodi that even Jodi doesn’t see in herself?

TALL GIRL has a strong moral worldview about family members supporting each other. The parents are extremely supportive and active in their children’s lives. Also, the main character has a good relationship with her sister. Jodi’s sister, Harper, is willing to risk success to support her sister. Though this is the case, the mother is a little tough on Harper, who’s a pageant queen.

TALL GIRL is an entertaining television movie on Netflix. The movie takes place in New Orleans, which is a fun backdrop. TALL GIRL is a little slow at times, but overall, the movie is enjoyable, with many laughs and some heartfelt moments. MOVIEGUIDE® advises caution for older children, however, because there’s implied underage alcohol use at a teenage party and some cursing.
