Can Self-Affirmations Help Us Spiritually? DUCK DYNASTY Star Weighs In

By Movieguide® Contributor

Sadie Robertson Huff is reminding us how important it is to be moved into motion by spiritual self-affirmations.

At this year’s MOTION Conference, Huff took the stage to share Matthew 5:13-14 — “You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot. You are the light of the world.”

“Jesus is saying, ‘This is who you are. This is who you’re called to be. You are called to be the salt of the earth, you are called to be the light of the world,’” she said

Huff then explained that, while “we want to be affirmed in who we are in Christ,” we might not always “want to be challenged to actually live like Christ.”

“This is who Christ says you are to be, but it’s on you to be it,” she said. “We so love and understand affirmation, but if affirmation doesn’t move you to motion, to do something, then it’s just words.”

Huff continued, “I think sometimes, self-affirmations can feel like we’re just fooling ourselves into believing something that’s not really true, so how much better that you don’t have to fool yourself? How much better that, when you have spiritual affirmation and affirmation that’s actually rooted in the truth of God’s word, it’s not fooling yourself. It’s actually affirming yourself into who God created you to be and who He is in you.”

“You can live your whole life like a microphone without power if you do not invite the spirit of God into your life,” she told the audience. “You can live your whole life with all the potential in the world…but unless you invite the spirit of God to come in you and activate something in you…man, you’re missing the point.”

Huff concluded, “It’s your turn to be that disciple. It’s your turn to be filled with the spirit of God and actually go out and be the light in the world for the world to change.”

Movieguide® previously reported on another recent talk Huff gave about trusting God’s process:

Sadie Robertson Huff is reminding us that, without God, material objects and success mean nothing.

“The process to the promised land is so essential, because you could be at the promised land and not be ready for the promised land because you didn’t go through the process that, even though you’re in the promised land, you’re still acting like a slave,” Huff said in a clip shared to her Live Original ministry account.

She continued, “I think that’s what happens when people think, like, ‘Oh, if I just get famous, if I just have all these followers and all this money,’ and all the sudden you get to the promised land, and you’re still broken. You get to the promised land. You struggle more than ever because you got to the promised land, but your heart was still the heart of a slave. And so God was like, ‘No, no, no, there’s a process to get there. We’re not just gonna get to the promised land. I gotta show you who I am on the way there so that you know that, really, the promised land is there. But the promise is me.’

“You could have everything in the world, but if you don’t have Him, you have nothing,” Huff emphasized.

Huff frequently shares messages of faith on her social media pages, encouraging followers and inviting them to think more deeply about their relationship with God.

In one recent post, she wrote about the stress she sometimes feels looking at a packed schedule.

“I’ve been thinking about this verse from Matthew 6:34 a lot; ‘Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own,’” she wrote. “There’s so much freedom in trusting God with our tomorrow. This has been so evident in my life lately as God has taught me to live in the present day and trust Him with the rest.”

Huff is also preparing for the publication of her upcoming book, “The Next Step: 50 Devotions to Find Your Way Forward.”

“I’ve been so blessed to be surrounded by SO many incredible people with such great wisdom!” she wrote in an announcement about the book. “As y’all know I love hearing any piece of advice people have to offer and I really cherish the wisdom I am able to gain from people, and of course the wisdom I gain from the Bible! The ultimate WHOA THAT’S GOOD BOOK!”

Huff continued, “The Next Step was written through the framework of the Bible’s Wisdom Books—Psalms, Proverbs, Song of Solomon, Job, and Ecclesiastes. I hope that this book helps you learn that the word of God can help guide all of your steps. Stick around to find out more about the book tomorrow! I’m so excited for it to be here in November!”
