Actor Scott Patterson reflected on the legacy of GILMORE GIRLS as the show celebrates its 25th anniversary.

“I love the writing on this show. It’s so special that we got to do that every day,” Patterson, who played diner owner Luke on the show, told TODAY. “Let’s face it, it’s the cherry on top of the cake of all of our careers. We’ll never outdo this show. There will never be another GILMORE GIRLS and these characters are going to live forever.”

He added, “So [I’m] very lucky in that regard, I feel very, very grateful to be a part of this 25-year phenomenon. And let’s raise our glasses to 25 more years.”

In an interview with TV Insider, Patterson spoke about the anniversary in more detail.

“It has been a long time, 25 years is a long time. It’s an actual quarter of a century measure. It has gone by very quickly,” he said. “It’s just completely unexpected. The show’s popularity seemed to start gaining momentum in 2014 and then really went viral in 2016 with the new episodes.”

The actor continued, “In the last nine years, it has just exploded. It’s quite unique. I don’t know if this phenomenon has happened before like this. It’s truly unique and remarkable. I feel very lucky to be a part of it. A show that has been embraced by the world, I’m just feeling very lucky.”

“I could write a book on the stories of people who tell me how the show has improved their lives because of these strong women that are being portrayed in this series,” Patterson said of GILMORE GIRLS’ enduring legacy. “It has given people a lot of hope and strength.”

That legacy is being explored in an upcoming documentary about the show, titled DRINK COFFEE, TALK FAST. It features interviews with stars of the show, including Kelly Bishop, Jared Padalecki, Chad Michael Murray, Sally Struthers and Keiko Agena.

“As one of the most celebrated and rewatched series of the 21st century, the show has inspired audiences to dream bigger, talk faster, and cherish the people and places that feel like home,” producer Jim Demonakos said in a statement about the documentary.

He added, “[DRINK COFFEE, TALK FAST] will reveal how GILMORE GIRLS came to life, why it continues to resonate across generations, and how its unique blend of humor, heart and pop culture shaped a devoted worldwide fan community with an in-depth look at its creation and the connections it continues to foster. This documentary is for fans of the show but also for anyone with an interest in cultural history and how it affects individual lives.”

Fans around the world, as well as GILMORE GIRLS’ cast, are excited to celebrate this landmark anniversary together.
