A new TikTok trend linked to A MINECRAFT MOVIE is causing chaos in theaters and even requiring police intervention.

“People at the cinema are going crazy over the new MINECRAFT movie like it’s the end of AVENGERS ENDGAME,” one person posted on X. Others have been sharing videos of their rowdy theaters yelling and cheering when certain characters appear.

One of the scenes that gets the biggest reactions? “Chicken jockey.”

The line is said by Jack Black during a scene where Garrett Garrison (played by Jason Mamoa) is preparing to fight off a chicken. Suddenly, a crate hanging over the chicken opens, and a baby “zombie,” one of the green figures from the video game, drops onto the chicken.

Black, playing Steve, says, “Chicken jockey,” and theaters across the world are going wild — and filming and uploading those reactions to social media.

It is a reference to a component of the Minecraft game. A chicken jockey is “rare,” according to the Minecraft Wiki page, which might account for the excited reactions of moviegoers.

In one video of an audience watching the scene, moviegoers yell and throw their popcorn into the air. Their behavior had consequences, though — police were called and many young people were escorted out of the theater (video via DiscussingFilm on X).

Reactions online to this new TikTok trend are mixed. Some are just happy theaters are full and thriving, while others are scolding people for acting rudely.

One wrote, “the minecraft movie is truly one of the worst movies i’ve ever seen but the universal reaction to ‘chicken jockey’ i’m seeing made it all worth it.”

“I hate that people are defending this behavior,” one X user commented. “you go to a cinema to watch a movie not to be a nuisance to others.”

Another posted, “there’s no need for people to act like this over a film scene. it’s so annoying and makes it impossible to watch the movie.”

A theater in New Jersey even announced that minors seeing A MINECRAFT MOVIE must be accompanied by an adult, and “unaccompanied groups of boys will not be admitted.”

Love it or hate it, these audience reactions are indicative of A MINECRAFT MOVIE’s record-breaking success at the box office. The movie opened with $163 million in the US and Canada alone and has already made over $313 million at the global box office.

It is the highest opening for a movie based on a video game ever, a record opening for a Warner Bros-Legendary co-production, and the largest openings of Black and Momoa’s careers.

“You just can’t plan for stuff like this,” director Jared Hess told Deadline. “For me, it’s always just trying to make something that you’re passionate about, that’s funny to you, that you’re interested in and to try to have that integrity as you’re making it. That’s the best you can hope for. You never ever know what’s going to happen with anything, and you just feel immense gratitude that it’s connecting.”

Based on the audience reactions, it’s safe to say that Hess’ movie is definitely connecting with its viewers.
