Why Ben and Erin Napier Got Emotional on the Set of HOME TOWN TAKEOVER
Movieguide® Contributor
IN HOME TOWN TAKEOVER Season 3, the Napiers expected to rebuild a town that really needs it, but they didn’t expect that they’d be brought to tears.
“Our family had so much fun making this show, we did not want it to end. There is a moment where Erin and I got emotional,” Ben told TV Insider this week of their experience in Sebring, Florida.
Erin said, “I was crying my eyes out.”
After helping restore hurricane damage and falling in love with Sebring, the couple weren’t ready for their experience to be over.
“We didn’t want it to end. For that to be work and for us to get paid to do this, it’s all a blessing most people don’t ever get to experience,” Bed said. “I hope that all shows through this show.”
The Napiers are used to renovating in Laurel, Mississippi, a tornado-susceptible area. Renovating for hurricane weather was new for them.
Ben said, “That was actually a learning curve for us because we didn’t realize. In Florida, it’s required by law and part of inspections, you have to build for hurricanes. They don’t call it hurricane-proof. They call it hurricane-resistance.”

This season was a lot different for the Napiers than the first two seasons.
Ben said, “I think what stood out was the amount of work we could do. With Season 1, we were figuring it out. What can we do? What can we not do?”
“Season 2, we had our baby Mae in the mix. That was a whole new time. We weren’t sleeping. We were trying to figure it out,” he said.

Ben said, “Anyone who has little kids knows how much it affects everything you do.
“It colors your whole world,” Erin added.
For all of their children’s lives, the Napiers have kept them near them
“We don’t travel anywhere without the girls. Then it’s, ‘We’re traveling to Fort Morgan, Colorado.’ We have to bring our entire family,” Ben said.
“We have to bring our sitter with us. We have to bring grandmother with feedings and all this stuff,” he continued. “We have to have a high chair in our hotel room we’re staying at.”
They don’t have to go to that much work now that the girls are older.
“Season 2, Dave and Jenny (Marrs) were there as much if not more than we were there to help us carry the load. Their kids were older. They are a little more adjusted,” Erin said.
The stable relationships between the Napiers and their construction team and film crew make it easier, too.
Erin told Yahoo Entertainment that she hopes her girls see the value in their parents’ work ethic.
“I hope our girls see that the reason we get up and go to work every day, and the reason it matters so much, is that these small towns in America are the flavor of America,” Erin said.
The season’s first episode just premiered on Sunday. Their first stop was Sebring Soda. The Napiers gave the business a bright new coat of paint, gutted the interior, and incorporated a fresh but classic feel to draw more customers to downtown Sebring.
“It was always a gathering place,” Erin said. “But now it needs to be a memory making place. I want people to remember the times they spent at Sebring Soda.”
