YOUNG SHELDON Announces Final Season

CBS sitcom YOUNG SHELDON has announced its final season.
The BIG BANG THEORY prequel will return for season 7 on Feb. 15. The season finale will air on May 16.
Variety reported that the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes resulted in a shorter season than originally planned.
“The season will be shorter than those before it due to the truncated nature of the 2023-2024 scripted broadcast season caused by the writer and actors’ strikes that shutdown Hollywood productions for nearly six months,” Variety stated.
The series follows Sheldon from THE BIG BANG THEORY as a child and stars Iain Armitage.
“As a prequel to one of the biggest comedies, YOUNG SHELDON proved lightning can strike twice,” said Amy Reisenbach, president of CBS Entertainment. “It set itself apart with a remarkable cast that felt like a family from the first moment we saw them on screen and brought characters to life with unique heartfelt stories that drew audiences in from the start. We extend a sincere thank you to executive producers Chuck Lorre, Steve Molaro and Steve Holland and the entire writing and producing teams for six wonderful seasons. We look forward to seeing their final season unfold and giving it a proper send off with the best episodes yet for their fans to enjoy.”
“In case you wondered, I love my family,” Armitage posted on Instagram about the show’s end. “There’s about 200 more people who make @youngsheldoncbs happen and I’m grateful for each of them. We will make the best 7th season we can possibly make- and behind the scenes there will be lots of laughter and lots of tears because I love all of these people so much.”
The show began airing in 2017. In 2021, CBS renewed it until 2024.
“The network has handed the series, which is the most-watched comedy on television, a three-season renewal starting with the 2021-22 broadcast season. The bumper order takes the Chuck Lorre half-hour through to the 2023-24 season,” Deadline reported at the time.
