YouTube promises to give subscribers a financial credit if Disney content remains unavailable on the platform amid the companies’ ongoing distribution disagreement.

“We’re continuing to negotiate with Disney in good faith,” YouTube TV posted on X. “It’s our goal to restore Disney content to YouTube TV, but if we can’t reach an agreement and their content is unavailable for an extended period of time, we’ll offer subscribers a $20 credit. You’ll receive an email with more details in the coming days.”

YouTube and Disney are currently negotiating distribution prices, which has led to Disney pulling all of its content from YouTube TV, including ABC, ESPN, The Disney Channel, FX and Nat Geo.

“We’ve been working in good faith to negotiate a deal with Disney that pays them fairly for their content on YouTube TV,” YouTube shared in an Oct. 30 blog post. “Unfortunately, Disney is proposing costly economic terms that would raise prices on YouTube TV customers and give our customers fewer choices, while benefiting Disney’s own live TV products – like Hulu + Live TV and, soon, Fubo.”

However, a Disney spokesperson claimed YouTube is the one holding the deal up, saying, “This is the latest example of Google exploiting its position at the expense of their own customers.”

This streaming distribution dust-up comes on the heels of YouTube’s disagreement with NBCUniversal. After threats of a black-out of NBCUniversal content on the streamer, the two companies came to an agreement.

“Our new agreement with Google is a clear win for both our business and our viewers – underscoring the enduring value of our must-see shows, films, sports, and live events while expanding our reach to even more audiences,” Matt Schnaars, President of Platform Distribution & Partnerships at NBCUniversal, said in a statement.

He continued, “We’ve secured long-term access to our full portfolio of broadcast and cable networks on YouTube TV, and we’re advancing our Peacock strategy with an upcoming launch on YouTube Primetime Channels and ongoing presence on Google TV. This agreement positions us for continued growth and reflects our commitment to delivering exceptional entertainment to fans across platforms.”

Justin Connolly, Vice President and Global Head of Media & Sports at Youtube, added, “This deal builds on our long-standing partnership with NBCU while addressing the evolving media landscape and recognizing the importance of making content available where and how viewers want to watch it. We are pleased to have reached this agreement and look forward to continuing our partnership to serve billions of viewers around the world.”

YouTube managed to come to terms with NBCUniversal, but time will tell if the streamer manages to find a deal that works for it and Disney.
