WHEN CALLS THE HEART prequel series HOPE VALLEY: 1874 just released its first trailer and the official premiere date.
According to PEOPLE, HOPE VALLEY: 1874, starring Bethany Joy Lenz and Benjamin Ayres, will premiere on Hallmark+ on Saturday, March 21. New episodes will debut every Thursday following that.
“Before Hope Valley, before the town built on love and faith, there was a story of new beginnings,” a voiceover says in the trailer for the new series. “They traveled west for a new life. They were building more than just a home. They were building hope.”
“We’re in gold country,” Lenz’s character Rebecca Clarke tells her daughter, Sarah (Mila Morgan), as they made their trip from Chicago to the Western Canadian area. “An adventure, huh?”

Next, the mother-daughter duo get a ride from local cowboy Tom Moore, played by Ayers.
“My mother can do anything she sets her mind to,” Sarah told the cowboy.
“I believe it,” Moore responded, adding, “Grit alone isn’t going to save you out on the frontier.”
“This prequel series to WHEN CALLS THE HEART will take viewers back in time to follow the early settlers of the community that will one day become the beloved frontier town of Hope Valley,” a synopsis of the show reads on Hallmark. “Showcasing themes of perseverance and romance, HOPE VALLEY: 1874 explores the journey of a mother as she discovers a new chapter in her life as she helps forge what starts out as collection of isolated settlers into a small close-knit community during the rugged and hopeful Pioneer Era.”
“HOPE VALLEY: 1874 gives us a wonderful opportunity to further explore the universe of WHEN CALLS THE HEART and build a deeper world around this show for our devoted fans, who have helped make it one of the most successful and enduring series on television today,” Michelle Vicary, head of programming, said in a press release last month, per Variety. “We’re excited for the Hearties to join us as we tell this rich origin story filled with the kind of heart, community and hope they know and love.”
Lenz and Ayers both expressed their gratitude to be part of the show.
“Feeling very fortunate to saddle up with this incredible cast and ride into 1874. 🐎 🐎,” Ayers wrote on Instagram.
“Dream come true this week ✨ And what a cast! @jillhennessyofficial @benjaminayres @roancurtis @lachdq @chelseaxhobbs and few more surprises up @hallmarkplus sleeve. Giddyup! 🤠,” Lenz shared.
