THE PIONEER WOMAN Ree Drummond and her husband, Ladd, revealed that they recently rescued a calf on their ranch.
Drummond shared a TikTok video of the two of them rescuing the calf. Ladd had noticed a mama cow by herself away from the rest of the herd, TV Insider reported.
He saw that she “was very engorged and didn’t have her calf with her.”
He drove to where the cow had been standing and found the calf sitting in the freezing snow. It had become “too weak to follow its mama” because it hadn’t been able to feed since the mom “was so swollen.”
Ladd put the calf in his truck, where it sat on the floorboard next to Drummond. They got the calf set up in their garage, where they bottle-fed it.
Drummond said, “the guys saddled their horses, rode out in the snow, roped the mama cow, and milked her so they could get her swelling down and also collect the colostrum — so essential for the calf’s survival and health.”

“She’ll spend the night in the garage since it’s so cold. Tomorrow when the sun comes up, Ladd will try to get her back with her mama,” Drummond added.
FIXER TO FABULOUS’s Jenny Marrs, a fellow farmer, dropped a comment on the video: “Goodness, ranching is not for the faint of heart and it also is the very best, honest work. Praying right now for this momma and baby!”
A few days later, they gave an update on the calf, which showed Drummond praying and feeding the calf over several days.
“Ladd tried to get her back on her mama the next morning, but the calf was weak and after a few hours, she still couldn’t get up by herself to nurse. So Ladd and Ree had to take her back to their heated garage to warm her up again and try to get her to eat more,” they wrote. “The calf had a few hours where she looked like she wasn’t going to make it (she’d been born in the winter storm and had a rough start), but after the mama’s colostrum, 2 bags of colostrum replacer, and the first round of milk replacer, she started pepping up a bit.”
“Now she’s in a warm spot in the old barn where she’ll stay for the next few cold days. It’s highly unlikely she’ll be able to nurse her mama (the mama would have to be gathered and milked down again) but Ladd isn’t ruling out trying one last time. But for now, the calf is alive and getting stronger every day.”
The couple has been up to a lot of other shenanigans on the ranch — Drummond shared an Instagram story on Tuesday of a cow projecting its excrement all over her daughter, which gave Ladd and the ranchers a good laugh.
In another video last week, she shared a video of cows running to eat some freshly laid out hay.
Drummond’s show, THE PIONEER WOMAN, released its 40th season last year. Another season hasn’t been confirmed yet, but it’s possible fans will get a new season in the fall.
