ERASER: REBORN is a reboot of a 1996 Arnold Schwarzenegger action movie. The new installment follows Mason Pollard, a United States Marshal whose job is to fake the deaths of witnesses and protect them from their enemies. Pollard’s next client, Rina Kimura, is the ex-wife of a crime boss. After Rina steals from her ex-husband and ends up killing him, she drags Pollard into a game of cat and mouse. Unknown to Pollard, his longtime friend and partner betrays him and ends up working alongside the people hunting Rina. Meanwhile, Pollard and Rina must learn to trust one another to have a chance of survival.

Sadly, ERASER: REBORN fails to live up to its predecessor and relies on heavy foul language and violence instead of character development and story. Without the added benefit of a star like Schwarzenegger, the movie lacks the first movie’s blockbuster power. There are some moral, redemptive elements stressing justice, trust and sacrifice, but the movie contains heavy foul language and bloody violence. The violence in ERASER: REBORN is more campy than realistic, however. MOVIEGUIDE® advises extreme caution.

ERASER: REBORN, is a reboot of the 1996 action movie from 1996 and is based on the same characters. However, it takes place 25 years later, and technology has made big advances.

The movie follows United States Marshal Mason Pollard, who’s tasked with faking the deaths of important witnesses and keeping their identity hidden from their enemies. Pollard is one of the most skilled “erasers,” and often has multiple jobs at one time. The movie introduces the audience to Rina Kimura, his next client. Rina is married to a crime boss but plans on betraying and stealing money from him.

Rina sneaks away from the party to break into his safe. After a brief fight, she ends up killing the crime boss and escaping with his money.

The crime boss’ second-in-command vows to avenge his boss and starts hunting down Rina. During a firefight, Pollard manages to save Rina and fake her death. The two escape to Cape Town, South Africa and prepare to lay low.

However, unknown to Pollard, his longtime friend and partner betrays him and ends up working alongside the people hunting Rina. Pollard and Rina must learn to trust one another if they want to survive and escape the assassins tracking them down.
