What You Need To Know:
FERRARI does a great job creating intrigue while uncovering the mystery behind Enzo and what made Ferrari one of the most winning cars in the auto industry. On the track, FERRARI excels, with exciting auto-sports scenes. Problems arise off the track, however. Sadly, they include instances of foul language, marital infidelity and Enzo’s willingness to lie his way to victory. While perhaps true to the real-life story, an R-rating could have been easily avoided. FERRARI also has some gruesome depictions of car wrecks. MOVIEGUIDE® advises extreme caution.
Content:
Light moral worldview with pro-capitalist elements where title character who runs a car company shows compassion to a young boy, but most of the movie follows the title character’s lust for competition and to be the best, even at the cost of those closest to him, plus some light references to Christianity and the Roman Catholic Church, including the Pope
23 obscenities (including nine f” words) but no profanities
Graphic, sudden violence including car crashes, bodies being thrown from cars, dead bodies are shown after a horrific car crash, including children, a man is severed in half after a collision with another car, the camera shows in full the violence from various car crashes
Depicted fornication in one scene, implied adulterous sex and infidelity, and implied marital sex
Full male nudity but from behind
People drink wine at parties
Smoking cigars throughout; and,
Enzo is willing to lie his way to the top, no matter who he hurts including his wife and loved ones.
More Detail:
In the summer of 1957, Ferrari is at his wits end. At risk of being beaten by fierce competition, Ferrari refuses to back down. A former racecar driver turned entrepreneur, Ferrari seeks to make the fastest piece of engineering and find a driver willing to compete as hard as himself.
Despite his past success and making a name for his race cars as one of the fastest, most powerful in the industry, Enzo wants nothing more than to be at the top, no matter what. Ahead of the Mille Miglia, a dangerous 1,000-mile race across Italy, Enzo knows this is where he can prove that a Ferrari is not just a sports car but can race with and beat the best. As Enzo speeds towards the finish line, he will win no matter the cost, and no matter who gets in his way.
FERRARI is a compelling look at the life of Enzo Ferrari. As the veil is lifted from Enzo’s methods, and his willingness to risk everything to be the best, viewers are greeted with some
great racing scenes on the track. However, things slow down off the track to focus on gratuitous immorality.
Whether it’s Enzo’s infidelity to his wife, Laura, or some unnecessarily bloody violence and foul language, FERRARI leans into its immorality at the expense of good storytelling. Enzo is unafraid to make enemies and hurt people on the way to the top. If FERRARI had pulled back on some of its immoral content, it would have been a more intriguing watch for the average moviegoer.
