Sophie lives a busy lifestyle assisting affluent clients with their interior design needs in Los Angeles. Sophie decides she needs a break from the city and leaves to visit the small town of Summerside. Summerside is close to Sophie’s heart because her Nana lived there as a painter in the 1960s. Sophie believes visiting Summerside will help her reconnect with herself and her past roots, since all her time in Los Angeles is devoted to work.

Upon arrival, Sophie meets a young spunky girl named Kailey and her widowed father, Michael. Michael owns the bed and breakfast where Sophie is staying. Sophie gives Michael all of her electronics because her goal for the trip is to paint, design and enjoy the nature. Sophie and Michael spend time together, and Michael reveals he used to host events and parties at the bed and breakfast prior to his wife’s passing. Sophie tells Michael she can help him spruce up the patio so that guests can return to the bed and breakfast. However, he declines the offer.

Sophie ends up decorating the patio with flowers, and Michael decides that a few people can come over for dinner. The guests have an amazing time, and Michael remembers what it was like to have company at the bed and breakfast. Sophie and Michael go out on a dinner date and discuss the annual summer solstice party. After a long discussion, Michael finally agrees on hosting the summer solstice party at the bed and breakfast.

Sophie talks to the town residents to see how they can help Michael plan for the party. Many people pitch in offering foods, crafts and supplies for the party. Kailey is ecstatic because there are never visitors at the bed and breakfast anymore. Sophie continues to complete her individual activities such as painting and kayaking.

One afternoon, Kailey spots Sophie preparing to go on a kayak adventure and begs her father to go kayaking at the same time. Sophie and Michael realize that Kailey is trying to “set them up” to be together.

In the following week, Sophie’s coworker visits the bed and breakfast and informs Sophie she must return to the company as they have an important deadline. Sophie must choose between attending the summer solstice party or returning to her job in Los Angeles. Reluctantly, Sophie returns to the city, but when she’s there, she misses Michael and Kailey. Sophie has a choice to make.
