Franklin Martin made a great documentary in WALKING ON DEAD FISH. He has done the same here with LONG SHOT. Since it’s a documentary, people are recorded saying what they say in real life. So, some of them use foul language. Therefore, caution is required. However, anyone facing trials and tribulations should see LONG SHOT to understand that no mater what their limitations are, they can overcome.

LONG SHOT: THE KEVIN LAUE STORY is an incredible, compelling story of Kevin Laue, who only has one arm yet wants to be a Division One college basketball player. Right at the beginning of the movie, the coach of the number one basketball camp in America says you have to have two hands to play basketball. The movie quotes Kevin’s father, Wayne, who died when Kevin was 10, when he says, “Until you become a man, you’ll never understand the harsh words of a father who wants more for his son than he wants for himself.”
The movie opens with Kevin standing by his father’s grave. He never felt his father was proud of him. Kevin lost his left arm in the womb because the umbilical cord wrapped around his arm, which kept him from being strangled. He’s focused all his life on being a great basketball player. He is tall, thin and athletic, but who wants to give a one-armed basketball player a chance? When Kevin does get a chance, however, he excels. Finally, in a last ditch effort, Kevin goes to a military academy back East known for its basketball program. He almost goes AWOL because the Academy is so difficult, but finally decides to continue. At the end of the year, before he graduates, each of his teammates has a scholarship to a Division One team. Only Kevin hasn’t been picked, even though the coach has called all the best teams personally.

LONG SHOT is a feature film in every respect. Since it’s a documentary, people are recorded saying what they say in real life. And, some of them use foul language. Therefore, caution is required. However, LONG SHOT is the type of movie anyone facing trials and tribulations should see to understand that no mater what their limitations are, they can overcome.
