More Detail:

THE FACULTY is a unique sci-fi thriller blending teenage angst, cutting-edge comedy and out-of-this-world special effects. The story follows an unlikely group of Herrington High students who make a terrifying discovery that ultimately confirms their worst suspicions…their teachers really are from another planet. The students of Herrington High come face-to-face with a challenge greater than anything they could ever imagine.

Like so many schools today, Herrington High has passed its prime. Its walls are grimy, its textbooks are out-dated, and its teachers are burned out. There is no money for field trips, new computers or the drama department’s musical. Yet, its crumbling corridors vibrate with the future of America – loners, leaders, hipsters, nerds, brains, and jocks.

The film opens with Coach Willis (Robert Patrick) ruthlessly screaming at his football team during a lousy practice, directing most of his rage at his star quarterback, Stan (Shawn Hatosy), who would rather be involved in academics than sports. After a faculty meeting that evening with teachers Mrs. Olson (Piper Laurie), Mr. Furlong (Jon Stewart) and Mr. Tate (Daniel Von Bargen), Principal Drake (Bebe Neuwirth) goes back into the school and is met by a harassing Coach Willis, who by now is an alien.

One by one, the entire faculty members become aliens. Two students, the nerdy Casey (Elijah Wood) and head cheerleader/editor-in-chief of the school paper, Delilah (Jordana Brewster), sneak into the faculty office to find a scoop to publish in their paper. They hear staff members coming into the room and hide in the closet. While in the closet they witness two of the alien faculty members attack Nurse Harper (Salma Hayek) and turn her into an alien. They then know that aliens are taking over the school. So they gather their remaining non-alien friends, Stokely (Clea DuVall), Marybeth (Laura Harris) and Zeke (Josh Hartnett) and inadvertently discover a home-made drug that kills the alien.

The objective is to find the Queen alien and kill her, thus turning all alien victims back to their original human form. More aliens are killed, more chasing ensues, and the queen is revealed in the climatic showdown between man and alien.

Kevin Williamson, screenwriter of SCREAM and SCREAM II, yet again targets the teen audience with this 90s version of INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS. Themes of alienation, us against them and brainwashing are all explored. THE FACULTY soundtrack features past and present pop music artists such as Pink Floyd, Alice Cooper, Sheryl Crow, Garbage, and more. Throughout the script of THE FACULTY, Williams peppers humorous, vulgar one-liners and pop-culture references.

Although this movie may appeal to the modern teenager and young adult, its content makes it difficult for the Christian to view. There is extensive foul language and some nudity. Furthermore, students take drugs and administer them to the aliens as the answer. The movie does, however, encourage academic learning. However, if your system of learning is not God-centered and not based on knowing how to discover truth and real goodness, then all the academic learning in the world will only make you an educated barbarian.
