NO ADDRESS

"A Haven of Hope for the Homeless"

Watch:

What You Need To Know:

NO ADDRESS is a heartrending drama about several people of varying ages who form a community in a homeless population on the streets of Sacramento. Each person has a heartbreaking story pointing to the fact that homelessness can happen to anyone. The people take in a young woman who was kicked out of her foster home because she turned 18. The miracle of the story is that through Christian faith, love and friendship, the homeless “family” finds a way to overcome their seemingly hopeless circumstances and help others do the same, including an unscrupulous businessman.

NO ADDRESS suffers a bit from multiple storylines, but this speaks to the urgency of the situation the filmmakers are trying to address. To its credit, NO ADDRESS points to solutions, such as a successful non-profit organization providing shelter and aid to homeless populations. It also advocates prayer, church, charity, faith, and salvation. MOVIEGUIDE® advises caution for older children and young teenagers because of some violence, adult themes, implied substance abuse, and dysfunctional family situations. NO ADDRESS also contains some sad and somewhat disturbing scenes of tragedy and misery.

More Detail:

NO ADDRESS is a heartrending drama about a group of people of varying ages who form a community in a homeless population on the streets of Sacramento. Each person has a heartbreaking story which pointing to the fact that homelessness can happen to anyone. The miracle of the movie is that through faith, love, and friendship the homeless “family” finds a way to overcome their seemingly hopeless circumstances and help others do the same, including an unscrupulous businessman. NO ADDRESS has some gang-related street violence, adult themes and dysfunctional family situations. So, MOVIEGUIDE® advises caution for older children.

As the movie opens, Lauren is the latest to join the ranks of the desperate and needy homeless. She lost her mother at a young age and was tossed around in the foster care system. Upon graduation, her foster mother kicks her out, because she no longer brings in money from the system.

Lauren hits the streets. Unequipped and alone, her earthly belongings, which consist of two garbage bags, are stolen. Her life is threatened. However, a down-on-his-luck young man, Jimmy, rescues Lauren from gang violence. He invites Lauren to live in his homeless tenement community.

In the tenement, Jimmy, Harris, Dora, and Violet have become a family. They look out for each other. Though the community possesses next to nothing, this is the first real family Lauren has been a part of since her mother died.

However, the community is threatened when a real estate agent named Robert (played by William Baldwin), at his wits end, seeks to destroy the homeless community to sell the land for profit. Robert does nasty and illegal things to destroy the encampment. What he doesn’t know is that he may be the next homeless man on the block.

NO ADDRESS suffers a bit from multiple storylines, but this speaks to the urgency of the situation the filmmakers are trying to get across. The same can be said for the concentration on the tragedy and misery of homelessness. This is forgivable due to the level of awareness the movie brings to viewers.

Much to its credit, NO ADDRESS points to solutions. One such solution is a successful non-profit organization called “Haven for Hope,” which serves to provide shelter and rehabilitative aid to homeless populations. NO ADDRESS also advocates prayer, church, charity, faith, and salvation. MOVIEGUIDE® advises caution for older children and young teenagers because of some violence, adult themes, implied substance abuse, and dysfunctional family situations. NO ADDRESS also contains some sad and somewhat disturbing scenes of tragedy and misery.

Concerned adults will want to see this movie because the homeless crisis is everybody’s responsibility. As Jesus says in Matthew 25:40, “Whatever you do for least of my people, you do for me.” So, kudos to NO ADDRESS for making the homeless issue so crystal clear and important.

NO ADDRESS goes to great lengths to demonstrate the homeless epidemic in the United States. Homeless populations are often looked at as a problem to eradicate. Many city governments simply move them around, or worse, imprison homeless people. However, if the average person stopped to try to understand the issues, viable solutions with human compassion can be found. NO ADDRESS drives home the point that every person is made in the image of God and must be treated with dignity.
