In SPIDER-MAN 2, Peter Parker, a.k.a. Spider-Man, confronts new personal problems as he battles a new awesome villain, a scientist with evil mechanical arms attached to his back, named Doctor Octopus. SPIDER-MAN 2 is terrifically entertaining, with lots of action, amazing special effects, a few unexpected plot twists, and a redemptive Christian worldview with very strong moral values and a provocative theme on the nature of, and need for, sacrificial heroism.
LADDER 49 is a bighearted, entertaining and poignant movie that would have benefited by some script doctoring. In the midst of a movie that contains a lot of references to church, faith and Jesus, some of the slight cautions are the foul language and brief premarital sex where nothing is shown. Even so, it’s refreshing to see a movie with so much faith and values.
ACT OF VALOR
ACT OF VALOR is a riveting, realistic war movie about a Navy Seal team trying to stop a Muslim terrorist from entering the country via evil drug smugglers. ACT OF VALOR is an intense, explosive war movie with very strong patriotic values, but it has very strong war violence and some strong foul language. So, extreme caution is advised.
THE GIVER is a science fiction movie about a young man who defies a tyrannical society that forces people to get rid of their painful and happy memories. THE GIVER is an absorbing, inspiring fable with no crude content and a pro-life message, with a strong Christian, moral worldview attacking authoritarian humanist governments, mixed slightly with some light Romantic, pagan elements.
THE GREAT RAID
THE GREAT RAID is a realistic, inspiring and patriotic portrayal of the most successful rescue mission in U.S. military history, where a squad of Rangers goes on a mission to extract a group of 500 American POWs during World War II. The movie’s violence is intense and sometimes graphic, however, as the Japanese soldiers perform executions at point-blank range and other cruel acts.
CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER
CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER tells the origin of Marvel’s first super-hero and the beginnings of his battles against Red Skull, the ruthless head of a rogue Nazi outfit trying to take over the world. Despite some foul language, CAPTAIN AMERICA delivers an inspiring, exciting patriotic punch with a lot of heart.
FOR GREATER GLORY
FOR GREATER GLORY is a memorable movie about the resistance against the socialist president of Mexico in the 1920s who tried to shut down all the Christian churches forcibly, including shooting innocent people. Despite too many subplots, FOR GREATER GLORY is a very important, captivating movie extolling religious liberty, but caution is advised for some violence.
THE REMAINS OF THE DAY
The film THE REMAINS OF THE DAY relates the story of a proper, repressed English butler who finds the love of his life but fails to win her. The movie contains excellent performances by Anthony Hopkins as Stevens, the butler, and Emma Thompson as the housekeeper. James Ivory's direction and Ruth Prawer Jhabvala's imaginative narrative are also commendable.
LORENZO'S OIL is the remarkable true story of a Christian couple's faith in God as they battle against time and the medical establishment to save their son's life. LORENZO'S OIL is emotionally intense and a powerful testimony to the power of prayer and faith in God. The mother and father's love for the child serves as a model of perseverance.
THE QUEEN is an illuminating, fascinating glimpse into the rarified world of the British royalty that tells what happens when Britain learns of the tragic sudden death of Princess Diana in a car accident. With a very strong moral worldview with very strong references to God, THE QUEEN is a rare movie that works on all levels and is fascinating to watch.
