More Detail:

THE GIFT presents a series of negative lessons on drug use and where it can lead. Directed and produced by the music group “Jane’s Addiction’s” lead singer, Perry Farrell, the film opens with a drug deal. The narration is a host of rules which he states after scenes in the film that teach demented “lessons.” The first scene sets the pace for these lessons with “Never let your money leave your hands before you get the goods, or “drug”–a wonderful lesson for a nation struggling to win a war on drugs. As the film reaches an astoundingly high level of lewdness, Perry announces “Rule 2: Never wear a dress to a deal.” Following a number of sordid experiences, Farrell’s wife, Casey, injects herself with heroine (this is done openly in front of the viewer), overdoses and dies as a result. Farrell fails to call the police for sometime laying his dead wife on their bed and fixing a sort of shrine around her. Ultimately, he notifies the police, and they query him about his strange behavior. He tells them he didn’t think anyone should see her looking the way she did in her natural state of death.

THE GIFT is based on an exposition of the life of a sub-culture of junkies. The combination of demented sexuality, vivid scenes of drug use and abundant use of foul language, create a film which would horrify even the most hardened audience.
