MINDHUNTERS

"Island Full of Booby Traps for Real Boobs"

What You Need To Know:

MINDHUNTERS is yet another ultraviolent slasher movie, although this one is a bit dumber and less interesting than some others. It is about a class of upcoming FBI profilers, which are detectives who deduce personality traits about a killer after studying the clues of his crime. During their final week of training, it seems that someone has turned on the group and is profiling the profilers, designing elaborate traps to kill them off one by one. The team members don’t know if their teacher has gone crazy or if there is a murderer on the island – or one inside their team. Will there be anyone left by the time the killer is identified?

The premise for MINDHUNTERS is interesting, but the movie is full of unnecessary gore and sadistic killings. People are disfigured, animals are tortured, clues are written in blood. There is a relentless quality about the violence that makes this movie extremely unappealing. The gruesome killings add nothing to the movie’s suspense but could appeal to middle schoolers raised on shoot-‘em-up video games. The characters are two-dimensional stooges. With little to offer aside from ghastly, mind numbing violence, MINDHUNTERS is a dud.

Content:

(H, LLL, VVV, SS, NN, A, D, M) Light humanist worldview about characters who have no purpose in life but to go on living and who work only for personal satisfaction; 26 obscenities, including many ‘f’ words, and six strong profanities; gory violence includes a room of dead animals and human corpses, man frozen and broken apart, decapitation with blood used to write on wall, man killed with arrows, woman fatally burned by acid, man hanged, gun backfires, fatal shootings, boat explodes with no one on it, medical operations on wounds, and lots of creepy imagery; sex implied, plus kissing in shower, and a homosexual kiss in the background of a bar; rear male nudity and upper female nudity in shower; alcohol in bar; smoking; and, deranged serial killer betrays his friends, and man disciplines his students too harshly.

MINDHUNTERS is yet another ultraviolent slasher movie, although this one is a bit dumber and less interesting than some of the others. It is about a class of upcoming FBI profilers, detectives who deduce personality traits about a killer after studying the clues of his crime. During their final week of training, it seems that someone has turned on the group and is profiling the profilers, designing elaborate traps to kill them off one by one.

Val Kilmer plays the iron fisted FBI trainer Jake Harris who is weeding out the good profilers from the bad. As a final test, he dumps the six of them on a deserted island and asks them to complete an exercise. Other than the team, the only things on the island are target practice mannequins and stray cats. Harris sets up an elaborate (but fake) crime scene for the team to analyze, but when one of the team members actually gets killed, the profilers don’t know if Harris has gone crazy or if there is a murderer on the island – or even inside their team.

With each team member killed, the traps become more elaborate, and the team becomes more paranoid. Every answer seems to be a false alarm. Will there be anyone left by the time the killer is identified?

Further, the characters are ridiculous, behaving and speaking in ways that are not at all realistic. If only the makers of horror and suspense movies could accept the notion that their movies can still be exciting if the characters act like real people! In MINDHUNTERS, most of the characters are utter morons. The movie is implausible for so many reasons.

With little to offer aside from ghastly, mind numbing violence, MINDHUNTERS is a dud.
