More Detail:

In EVEN COWGIRLS GET THE BLUES, Uma Thurman plays a former model born with thumbs as long as cucumbers who sets out across circa 1973 America with the magical gift of hitchhiking. Her journey leads her to a rehab/dude ranch with cowgirls, where lesbianism and feminism run amok, along with an animal rights mentality concerning a migratory flock of endangered whooping cranes.

This adaptation of Tom Robbins’ 1976 novel gives a psychedelic, confused and disillusioned look at a rejected girl seeking purpose and acceptance in life. Her wanderings resemble a lost dog searching for its master. COWGIRLS’s shallow storyline leads aimlessly into several objectionable areas, including a heavy lesbian theme, perverted and illicit sexual activity, alcohol and drug use, hints of Eastern mysticism, and a plot lined with strong feminist overtones. The premise of COWGIRLS presents the familiar cry that women are dominantly better than men and that they can love their own, while also loving Mother Earth and her power. Bland scenery, under-acting, less than believable performances by the bulk of the cast, and storyline inconsistencies cause questions as to the intent of COWGIRLS. Is this film supposed to be an entertaining story or a vehicle to soap-box liberal views? EVEN COWGIRLS GET THE BLUES, especially when they are in a bad film.
