What You Need To Know:
YOU AGAIN is good, clean and entertaining, with some strong redemptive moments. It offers several genuinely funny moments, played really well by an all-star cast. There are few offensive elements. Betty White’s character does have a couple light innuendos while trying to pick up on any man in the room, but nothing really overt happens. For instance, she gives a sly delivery when she offers a young man her phone number. Caution for young children is advised.

(CC, BB, V, A, M) Strong Christian, moral worldview stresses forgiveness and reconciliation as well as integrity, honesty, self-sacrifice, and other virtues and includes a Christian pastor who clearly leads the wedding ceremony featured briefly in the story; no foul language; light comical violence such as girls have a shoving match, a food fight with smashing dishes and girl gets knocked down; no sexual activity but some light innuendoes such as older woman gives her phone number to a young guy, but it’s played for a joke and she’s with other women, older woman says she’s a “cougar,” and older woman implies she did something vaguely racy in college, but nothing really overt is said; no nudity; alcohol use; no smoking or drugs; and, effeminate Air Marshall, bullying and festering resentment.

YOU AGAIN is an entertaining family movie. Filled with redemptive elements and biblical values, it is light and breezy with many laughs.
Marni (played by Kristen Bell) returns home after a long absence for her brother’s wedding only to discover he is engaged to Joanna (played by Odette Yustman), Marni’s arch-nemesis from high school who singlehandedly made her teenage years a figurative torture. Marni determines to expose Joanna for a fraud, enlightening her brother and the rest of her family who have fallen under her spell.
Starting with flashback clips from the Class of 2002 Video Time Capsule, viewers are introduced to both girls. Marni is the proverbial awkward teenager with thick glasses, bangs and bad skin. Joanna is the impossibly beautiful and impossibly evil head cheerleader.
Flash forward to the present and Marni has transformed herself into a high powered executive at an important PR firm in Los Angeles. Fresh off a new promotion to the head of her division, she arrives back home after a long absence, only to discover that she seems to have been away too long. In her absence, even the dog has fallen in love with her brother Will’s fiancé.
Finally, the great reveal! Joanna plays complete innocence, feigning no recollection of Marni from high school. Soon, however, cracks begin to appear in Joanna’s elaborate veneer.
Finally, the truth comes out and the two girls are locked in battle that hits its peek at the Rehearsal dinner. Trespassing old high school grounds, Marni digs up their 2002 Time Capsule and steals video the movie opened with, videos which were not to be seen until the year 2050. She arranges to have Joanna’s video booth confession played at the dinner, exposing her as a conceited and evil teenage witch, but what was expected to be the last straw in Marni’s favor, finally exposing the truth and saving her brother from a horrible marriage, completely backfires.
YOU AGAIN is not a great movie, but it is good, clean, entertaining, and offers some genuinely funny moments, all without offensive language or other elements. Betty White’s character does have a few light innuendos while trying to pick up on any man in the room, but nothing really overt happens.
In a subplot, the movie’s theme (that everyone deserves a second chance) is largely presented by Marni’s mother, played by Jamie Lee Curtis. However, she is put to the test when she discovers to her own horror that Joanna’s mom, her soon-to-be in law played by Sigourney Weaver, is actually her arch-nemesis from high school as well. In the end [spoiler alert], both mothers echo the experience of their daughters, ending likewise in forgiveness and reconciliation.
