More Detail:

Filmed in New York City, THE FIRST WIVES CLUB could be called THE REVENGE OF THE BABY BOOMER WIVES WHO GET DUMPED BY THEIR HUSBANDS FOR YOUNGER BIMBOS. It has an abundance of talent, yet manages to drown in its own overindulgence. This movie begins at a 1969 High School graduation where four female school mates take one last photograph of themselves together. They include Brenda, played by Bette Midler, Elise, played by Goldie Hawn and Annie, played by Diane Keaton. Now, an aging member of the original foursome takes leap off her terrace. During the funeral, the three friends discover their husbands have left them for younger women. It isn’t long before the trio is planning their bittersweet revenge.

THE FIRST WIVES CLUB does not lack some very funny moments. It certainly presents a very talented cast. The closing musical number where Hawn, Midler and Keaton all perform together is almost worth the price of admission. Unfortunately, this movie is a one sided, feminist manifesto. This perspective is dishonest and destroys a constructive dialogue between the sexes. God calls men and women to live life in the Spirit of unselfish love, forgiveness and humility. The best Hollywood can give us in this movie is a line: “Don’t get even, get everything.” Hence, all it offers is revenge and retribution.
