JAKE’S CORNER is a general store, bait shop, bar, and RV park where former Heisman winner Dunn retreats, in order to cope with the sudden loss of his parents. The everyday routine is disrupted when Dunn learns that his sister and her husband were killed in an auto accident. Their son, Spence, survived the crash, but doesn’t remember it. Trying to protect him from the pain, Dunn decides not to tell Spence that his parents died. Spence starts to remember about the accident and then runs away to his own home, only to discover the truth about his parents. Meanwhile, the gang at Jake’s Corner searches frantically for their missing friend.

JAKE’S CORNER is well made with a solid cast that brings heart and soul to this troubling story. The moment when Dunn and Spence share their pain is very touching. Richard Tyson as Dunn creates an empathetic character. The music by B.J. Thomas is highly enjoyable. There is only minor, light negative content. JAKE’S CORNER is not for young children but allows older family members an opportunity to discuss serious issues of life and death from a godly perspective.

More Detail:

JAKE’S CORNER is a place where former Heisman winner Dunn retreats in order to cope with the sudden loss of his parents. Jake’s Corner is in Arizona with a general store, bait shop, bar, and RV park. The people who live there call it home. Most of them are an odd bunch, but closer than most families. At Jake’s Corner, life is easy and structured. Dunn is trying to answer the question, Why did this happen?

The everyday routine at Jake’s Corner is disrupted when Dunn receives even more tragic news. His sister and her husband were killed in an auto accident. Their son, Dunn’s nephew, Spence, survived the crash, but, due to a concussion, he doesn’t remember it. Dunn has not yet recovered from the loss of his own parents, but now he is expected to help his orphaned nephew.

Trying to protect Spence from the pain of his loss, Dunn decides not to tell Spence that his parents died. Dunn calls a meeting of all those at Jake’s Corner to require them not to tell Spence the truth.

However, the curious youngster teaches those around him more than they teach him. Trying to deal with his own pain, Dunn struggles with how to tell Spence about his parents. Spence starts to remember about the accident and then runs away to his own home, only to discover the truth about his parents. Meanwhile, the gang at Jake’s Corner searches frantically for their lost friend.

JAKE’S CORNER is well made with a solid cast that brings heart and soul to the troubling story. The touching moment when Dunn and Spence share their pain is outstanding. Richard Tyson as Dunn creates an empathetic character, who walked away from his football career to grieve his parents. The music by B.J. Thomas is highly enjoyable. There is only minor negative content, something that other movies could mimic.

JAKE’S CORNER is not for the youngest of children because of the theme but allows an opportunity to discuss serious issues of life and death from a godly perspective.
