HELL BABY

"More Silly and Obscene than Funny"

What You Need To Know:

HELL BABY is a low budget horror comedy. In the story, an expectant married couple moves into the most haunted house in New Orleans, in the African American section of town. Their neighbors stare at them incredulously as they move into the large dilapidated house. Strange things begin to happen. The wife, who’s pregnant with twins, starts to act like two different people. In desperation, her husband turns to two Catholic priest exorcists. All you know what breaks loose.

The funniest parts of HELL BABY are when one of the couple’s African American neighbors just suddenly appears in their house for no reason. He tells them he lives in their crawlspace. Keegan Michael Key is very funny in this part. The two leads, Rob Corddry and Leslie Bibb, also do well. However, HELL BABY has lots of strong foul language, graphic violence and extreme nudity. Although the two priests aren’t viewed entirely negatively, there’s mockery of the Christian faith and clergymen. The mockery isn’t vicious, but it’s abhorrent nonetheless. Ultimately, HELL BABY isn’t just excessive and abhorrent; it’s also more silly than funny.

More Detail:

HELL BABY is a low budget horror comedy. Despite the low budget, the filmmakers manage to insert some good color photography in their movie. However, the movie’s few clean laughs are overwhelmed by extreme foul language, violence and nudity, plus abhorrent mockery of Christian faith.

In the story, an expectant married couple moves into the most haunted house in New Orleans, in the African American section of town. Their neighbors across the street stare at them incredulously as they move into the large dilapidated, rundown house.

Strange things begin to happen. The wife, Vanessa, who’s pregnant with twins, starts to act like two different people. In desperation, her husband, Jack, turns to two elite Catholic exorcists, played by the movie’s two writers/directors. All you know what breaks loose.

The funniest parts of HELL BABY are when one of the couple’s African American neighbors, F’resnel, just suddenly appears in their house for no reason. He tells them he lives in their crawlspace. Keegan Michael Key is very funny in this part. The two leads, Rob Corddry and Leslie Bibb, also do well.

Sadly, HELL BABY is R rated, for good reasons. It has lots of strong foul language, graphic violence and extreme nudity. Although the two priests aren’t viewed entirely negatively, there’s plenty of mockery of the Christian faith and clergymen. The mockery isn’t extremely vicious, as if the filmmakers had an axe to grind, but it’s abhorrent nonetheless. Ultimately, HELL BABY isn’t just excessive and abhorrent; it’s also more silly than funny.
