I’LL SEE YOU IN MY DREAMS tells the story of a retired schoolteacher named Carol seeking a reason to get up each day. Her search leads her to explore alcohol, drug abuse and promiscuity. It opens with Carol having her old beloved dog put to sleep. Left very alone in her house, she befriends Lloyd, her young pool cleaner. Lloyd is as clueless about what to do with his life as Carol is about what to do in retirement. They go to a bar, get drunk and sing karaoke. Carol meets and begins to enjoy spending time with Bill, a retired cigar lover who just moved from Texas to California to try to spend all his money before he dies.

To call this movie boring is an understatement. The acting and production values are fine, but home movies of family members opening Christmas presents would be more entertaining. Movies need a story that goes somewhere. Movieguide® recommends extreme caution for I’LL SEE YOU IN MY DREAMS because of the movie’s strong pagan worldview, foul language, lewd content, and drug and alcohol abuse.

I’LL SEE YOU IN MY DREAMS tells the story of a retired schoolteacher seeking some reason to get up each day. Her search leads her to explore alcohol, drug abuse and promiscuity.

I’LL SEE YOU IN MY DREAMS opens with Carol (Blythe Danner) having her old beloved dog put to sleep. Left very alone in her house, she befriends Lloyd (Martin Starr), her young pool cleaner. Lloyd is just as clueless about what to do with his life as Carol is about what to do in retirement. They go to a bar, get drunk and sing karaoke.

Carol’s card game friends from a nearby retirement community convince her to try speed dating. Several men get five minutes to talk her into having intercourse with them. None proved desirable or successful. At one point the card playing foursome tries getting high on medical marijuana.

Finally, Carol meets and begins to enjoy spending time with Bill (Sam Elliot). Bill just moved from Texas to California to try to spend all his money before he dies.

I’LL SEE YOU IN MY DREAMS simply meanders with some people looking for a reason to keep breathing. It fails to find it.

The impression of retirement given in this movie is horrible. Many retired people are active in their church, their family and constructive hobbies. They’re not searching for sex, drugs, alcohol, and excitement. The greatest joy you can find in retirement is the opportunity to help others. The greatest peace is in knowing that a new body and eternal life are coming soon (as the result of a personal, joyful relationship with Jesus Christ).

I’LL SEE YOU IN MY DREAMS is an unacceptable movie because of its strong, aimless pagan worldview, foul language, lewd content, and alcohol and pot use.
