THE VERY FIRST NOEL

"Cute, Animated, Very Christian Christmas Story"

Watch:

What You Need To Know:

THE VERY FIRST NOEL tells the Nativity Story from the point of view of the Magi, Melchior, who narrates much of the short movie. Melchior follows the Nativity star and joins up with two more magi, who add humor and wisdom. When they get to Jerusalem, Herod is furious, but disguises his anger to get them to go and find the King of Kings. He tells his soldiers to follow them. They get to the stable just after Joseph and Mary have arrived and had the baby Jesus. Several cutaways to Joseph and Mary tell their side of the Nativity Story.

This short rendition of the Nativity Story is captivating. The animation is cute, and there’s jeopardy in every line of rhyming dialogue and action. It would be a terrific short movie to introduce your children to the very first Noel. However, please explain to them we don’t believe in magicians or astrologers, but we do believe in the miracle of the birth of the King of Kings and Lords of Lords, Jesus Christ. THE VERY FIRST NOEL is great entertainment.

More Detail:

THE VERY FIRST NOEL is another in a long line of movies about the Nativity Story going back to 1897, but, in this case, the rhyming dialogue, upbeat renditions of Christmas carols, and cute animation create great entertainment.

That said, it starts off a little shaky with one of the Magi, Melchior, begins telling the story of the very first Noel. Melchior calls himself an astrologer and a magician. So, when screening for your children, please help them understand the biblical context.

Beyond that point, the narration is superb, and there’s lots of jeopardy as Melchior follows the Star of Bethlehem and joins up with two more magi, who add humor and wisdom.

When the three wise men get to Jerusalem, Herod is furious that they’ve read a prophecy that a new king has been born, but disguises his anger to get them to go find the new King of Kings. He tells his soldiers to follow them.

They get to the stable just after Joseph and Mary have arrived and had the baby Jesus. During their journey, there are several cutaways to Mary and Joseph encountering the angel who told them they would be the parents of the Messiah.
