5 Couples Leaning on The Lord to Shine a Light in Hollywood

Life in Hollywood is not for the faint of heart… That’s why for some, it’s a value-add to have a like-minded partner who wants to reframe their perspective on the entertainment from a mission standpoint!
Below are just a few couples who seek to honor the Lord in Hollywood.

- Mark Burnett and Roma Downey
Seeing the Bible stories you know and love come to life is a real treat! For that, you have Mark and Roma to thank!
This married couple produced THE BIBLE miniseries and A.D.: THE BIBLE CONTINUES. MOVIEGUIDE® gave Roma the Grace Award for her performance in THE BIBLE, which also came away with the $100,000 Epiphany Prize for the Most Inspiring TV Program of 2013.
Roma, who also starred in TOUCHED BY ANGEL, and Mark use their years of expertise in filmmaking to honor Biblical values for audiences far and wide. Both have stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and in recent years, produced the remake of Charlton Heston’s epic BEN-HUR.
Right now, Mark and Roma are working on another biblically inspired miniseries called MESSIAH.
Roma often tweets encouraging scripture verses to share.

2. DeVon Franklin and Meagan Good
DeVon and his wife Meagan Good married in 2012 have plenty of industry titles to their names. DeVon most recently produced the faith-based movie BREAKTHROUGH, in addition to THE STAR and MIRACLES FROM HEAVEN, both of which were honored at previous Movieguide® Awards. DeVon also just announced his latest project about the Christian recording artist Kirk Franklin.
Meagan had a big role in the superhero movie SHAZAM! in the spring of 2019 and a movie that she co-stars in with Dennis Quaid.
However, more compelling than their industry success is their pursuit of the Lord.
DeVon shares some spiritual dollops of wisdom in his books about Hollywood and Christian living: The Hollywood Commandments, The Wait: Devotional and Produced by Faith.
Movieguide® previously followed Meagan’s heart towards her blessings in both her personal and professional life.
“I pray and read my Bible every single day, I stay close to God because He’s what matters the most,” she said. “Everything else is secondary.”
3. Alexa and Carlos PenaVega
Alexa and Carlos’s faces frequent the Hallmark channel these days but another way you might know the two is from earlier days in their careers.
Alex starred as Carmen Cortez alongside Antonio Banderas in the SPY KIDS movies. Carlos got his big break on the Nickelodeon TV series BIG TIME RUSH.
The PenaVegas live in Hawaii and take the responsibility of being Christ-followers in the industry very seriously.
Alexa said the following about the role faith plays in their acting careers.
“I love faith-based films…. My husband and I said that what we want to do is to take our faith and make worldly content, but with the morals and values of what Christianity is about.”

- David A.R. White and Andrea Logan White
Ever heard of Pure-Flix? Well, these two co-founded the Christian/ family-friendly streaming site together!
Andrea starred on FEAR FACTOR early in her career and landed other roles that eventually led her to find more success with a Christian platform.
Meanwhile, David learned the ins and outs in Hollywood as an actor from a young age. In more recent years, David played opposite John Corbett in GOD’S NOT DEAD: A LIGHT IN DARKNESS.
The Whites married and 2003 and are parents to three children and love getting to champion biblically edifying values in Hollywood.
Andrea shares her compelling insight into the truth of the glitz and the glamour behind Hollywood in her memoir Perfectly Unfinished: Finding Beauty in the Midst of Brokenness.
“I had moved Los Angeles at twenty years old with nothing more than a dream in my heart to act, and in the years leading up to this moment [the premiere of MOM’S NIGHT OUT], David and I had come so far and grown so much in the mission God was entrusting to us.”
David took to Instagram this year to honor the anniversary of their engagement a few months ago.
