Date:  Thursday, March 19, 2020

Dan Wooding, the Christian founder to ASSIST News Service and longtime international journalist, went home to be with the Lord in Heaven Wednesday after a two-year struggle with cancer.

Wooding, who was a great friend to MOVIEGUIDE® and its sister organization, the Christian Film & Television Commission®, was born Dec. 19, 1940 in Nigeria of British missionary parents. Wooding, an award winning journalist, founded ASSIST News Service in 1991 to cover news from around the world from a Christian perspective, after years as a journalist in England and the United States.

MOVIEGUIE® Publisher and Founder Dr. Ted Baehr was saddened by the news of the death of his friend.

“Dan was a great friend, who had wit and wisdom,” Dr. Baehr said. “We met around the world and laughed together every time. Dan wrote great articles for MOVIEGUIDE® and came to every MOVIEGUIDE® Annual Faith & Values Awards Gala & Report to the Entertainment Industry. He helped make MOVIEGUIDE® a major force (with 41 million followers). He interviewed me often and never tired of my stories.

“Dan brought out the best in everyone. His life should be a movie. He was appreciated and loved. I know Jesus Christ is enjoying Dan’s company at the big banquet in Heaven, but those of us who are left behind will miss him a lot.”

Dan told his life story in the highly entertaining autobiography, FROM TABLOID TO TRUTH. Excerpts from the book can be read at www.assistnewsservice.net, where the book also can also be purchased.

Dan had a great big heart for the persecuted church overseas.

A press release from ASSIST reports, “Dan is survived by his wife of 56 years Norma, his two sons Andrew and Peter, and six grandchildren. They had lived in the US for 36 years and returned home in 2018 to be close to their two sons, Andrew and Peter, and six grandchildren.

“Norma asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Mercy Projects in Murrieta, California in memory of Dan.”
