By Allyson Vannatta, Senior Writer

Sony’s LITTLE WOMEN (2019) crossed the $100 million mark this past weekend as overseas theaters began to open their doors.

The critically acclaimed movie, which was nominated for a Movieguide® Award, brought in $475,000 from 472 screens in 12 foreign markets this last weekend.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Japan led the way with $300,000 for a two-week total on $1.3 million.

The movie’s global gross is now at $209 million.

The numbers, reported by Sony on Sunday, were the first box office numbers released by a Hollywood studio since the coronavirus pandemic hit the U.S.

As the U.S. begins to reopen, domestic theaters are also gearing up for new Hollywood releases at the end of July.

Disney’s MULAN (2020) will be the first big release on July 24, followed by Warner Bros. TENET on July 31.

Movieguide® previously reported Cinemark’s planned re-opening involves four phases. The theaters in the first phase opened on June 19, with more opening their doors each week.
