Chrissy Teigen: Keeping Families Together Is Insanely Important

By Movieguide® Staff

Former supermodel Chrissy Teigen and her husband, musician John Legend, are channeling the pain from their recent devastating miscarriage into helping other families.

The famous couple partnered with Ronald McDonald House to assist other families hurting during the holidays.

“As long as you care for children, there’s nothing else that you do aside from be a part of this initiative because this is bipartisan–loving your children, wanting the best for your children and wanting to keep families together for us is insanely important,” Teigen told GOOD MORNING AMERICA. “Now more than ever, charities need help with a donation decline, due to the pandemic you’ve seen this year with COVID, especially that people need their families close to them when they’re going through an illness, and a lot of families can’t afford to be there. What they’re doing is so incredible and so beautiful. And honestly, this is probably one of the things I’m most proud of doing.”

Teigen and Legend lost their son Jack due to a miscarriage earlier this year. Jack was just 20 weeks old in the womb when Teigen began hemorrhaging.

Doctors diagnosed her with “partial placenta abruption,” which the Mayo Clinic describes as when the placenta separates from the inner wall of the uterus, decreasing or blocking the baby’s supply of oxygen and nutrients and causing heavy bleeding in the mother.

“We are shocked and in the kind of deep pain you only hear about, the kind of pain we’ve never felt before. We were never able to stop the bleeding and give our baby the fluids he needed, despite bags and bags of blood transfusions. It just wasn’t enough,” Teigen posted to Instagram on Sept. 30.

“We never decide on our babies’ names until the last possible moment after they’re born, just before we leave the hospital.  But we, for some reason, had started to call this little guy in my belly Jack.  So he will always be Jack to us.  Jack worked so hard to be a part of our little family, and he will be, forever,” Teigen continued.  “To our Jack – I’m so sorry that the first few moments of your life were met with so many complications, that we couldn’t give you the home you needed to survive.  We will always love you.”

Legend says that though the experience was devastating, the family is starting to find hope again.

“I just know that I love my wife more than ever,” Legend told GMA. “We’ve been through so many challenges together and they’ve made her stronger, and I know that doesn’t always happen when people go through tragedy, but I feel like the challenges we face together have made us feel even more sure about who we are together as a couple, and who we are as a family. And that when we commit to be together forever that we really hold that promise to heart, and we take it seriously.”
