What You Need To Know:

TO ALL THE BOYS: ALWAYS AND FOREVER is a romantic comedy streaming on Netflix. Lara Jean is a high school senior who looks to the future with both fear and excitement for what’s to come. However, when Lara Jean doesn’t get into Stanford like her boyfriend, she’s forced to come to change her expectations for college, both romantically and pragmatically. With graduation looming around the corner, Lara Jean experiences a host of emotions that keep viewers rooting for a happy ending.

Part of a trilogy of TV movies, TO ALL THE BOYS: ALWAYS AND FOREVER is funny and cute, with some moral elements promoting marriage and good parenting. Also, characters often say, “I’m sorry” and “I love you.” The movie’s positive elements are marred, however, by a Romantic worldview. The female protagonist idealistically dreams of her future. Also, the movie contains some references to teenage sexuality. TO ALL THE BOYS: ALWAYS AND FOREVER also has some foul language, an image of a Buddha statue in one scene and drinking at a college party. So, MOVIEGUIDE® advises strong to extreme caution for mature audiences.

More Detail:

TO ALL THE BOYS: ALWAYS AND FOREVER is a romantic comedy streaming on Netflix about a female high school senior who looks to the future with both fear and excitement about what’s to come. Part of a trilogy of movies, TO ALL THE BOYS: ALWAYS AND FOREVER is funny and cute, with some moral elements promoting marriage and good parenting, but it’s marred by some foul language, references to teenage sexuality and drinking at a college party.

The story begins in Seoul, South Korea. Lara Jean Covey, her sisters Margot and Kitty, and Lara Jean’s dad and his girlfriend are on vacation from their home in Washington state to visit the birthplace of Margot’s late mother. Miles away, back in the States, is Lara Jean’s boyfriend, Peter, who’s anxious for her to return.

Lara Jean and Peter are high school seniors anxiously waiting to start the next chapter of their lives in college. Peter has a scholarship to Stanford, which is also where Lara Jean hopes to attend. One evening Lara Jean gets a notification that her application status is ready to view, but it’s not the news she hoped to receive.

Awkwardly, Peter just assumes that Lara Jean got into Stanford too. He’s in for a rude awakening if Lara Jean can muster up the courage to tell him, but all she can do is imagine his disappointment. Just before she can tell him while at a celebratory dinner, Peter asks Lara Jean to prom. Rain check on the truth then? Sure thing!

On the bright side for Lara Jean, she does get into UC Berkey which is only an hour away from Peter at Stanford! Perhaps, Lara Jean’s senior trip to New York City with Peter is the perfect time to tell him what she’s been keeping from him. Thankfully, once Lara Jean comes clean, Peter is cool with it, but there’s another roadblock. Lara Jean didn’t expect to fall in love with New York City and is considering going to NYU instead.

This means that Lara Jean needs to get her ducks in a row before graduation, but how will this impact her relationship or her future in general?

TO ALL THE BOYS: ALWAYS AND FOREVER is funny and often cute. It mirrors the two previous TO ALL THE BOYS movies in terms of style and an upbeat soundtrack. The acting is great and believable. Also, the filmmakers add cute graphics that help audiences track with changes in location or time of the movie’s plot. It’s obvious that ALWAYS AND FOREVER is geared toward teenagers and the early college demographic, but rom-com fans probably will enjoy the movie too.

TO ALL THE BOYS: ALWAYS AND FOREVER has a light Romantic worldview where the protagonist idealistically dreams of her future. The movie also contains references to teenage sexuality. However, it contains some strong moral elements promoting good parenting and marriage, plus characters who say, “I’m sorry” and “I love you” often. One negative worldview element is the image of a Buddha statue in South Korea. MOVIEGUIDE® advises extreme caution for mature viewers for some foul language and other content in TO ALL THE BOYS: ALWAYS AND FOREVER
