The new LORD OF THE RINGS series from Amazon now has a release date!

Amazon announced that the highly-anticipated show, which has yet to receive an official title, is set to debut on Prime Video on September 2nd, 2022.

“On September 2, 2022, a new journey begins,” Amazon announced on Twitter. The post also included the first official image from the series. Die-hard fans have already speculated what the image means for the show.

The Amazon original is set thousands of years before the events found in J.R.R. Tolkiens epic novels, The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. However, characters “both familiar and new” will make an appearance “as they confront the long-feared re-emergence of evil to Middle-earth.”

The Verge reported

The image release is tied to the series’s production wrap after filming in New Zealand. Fans quickly speculated that the series will be set in Valinor, as the image depicts what appear to be the Two Trees.

Amazon previously announced the series’ massive budget of $465 million for the first season alone.

Amazon Studios recently confirmed that the first season of the series “will be the largest television series ever made.”

Amazon will spend roughly $465 million in U.S. dollars on the premiere season.

“What I can tell you is Amazon is going to spend about $650 million in season one alone,” Stuart Nash, New Zealand minister for economic development and tourism, told Morning Report. “This is fantastic, it really is … this will be the largest television series ever made.”

According to the Verge, the confirmed list of cast members includes Cynthia Addai-Robinson, Robert Aramayo, Owain Arthur, Maxim Baldry, Nazanin Boniadi, Morfydd Clark, Ismael Cruz Córdova, Charles Edwards, Trystan Gravelle, Sir Lenny Henry, Ema Horvath, Markella Kavenagh, Joseph Mawle, Tyroe Muhafidin, Sophia Nomvete, Lloyd Owen, Megan Richards, Dylan Smith, Charlie Vickers, Leon Wadham, Benjamin Walker, Daniel Weyman, and Sara Zwangobani.

The series’ executive producers J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay, said that the show’s creation is the “adventure of a lifetime.”

“As Bilbo says, ‘Now I think I am quite ready to go on another journey,’” Payne and McKay said. “Living and breathing Middle-earth these many months has been the adventure of a lifetime. We cannot wait for fans to have the chance to do so as well.”

Despite the excitement from fans, others are worried that the LOTR story will rely on the same immoral content as GAME OF THRONES.

Fans of the LORD OF THE RINGS movies were appalled when Amazon reportedly planned to include sexual material mirroring the fantasy epic series GAME OF THRONES.

Fans noted that J.R.R. Tolkien’s LORD OF THE RINGS trilogy is a Christian allegory that contains no overt sexual content. Moreover, Peter Jackson’s reimaginings contain none of the gratuitous nudity and sexual violence found in GAME OF THRONES.

The uproar came after Yahoo News reported that casting calls for the upcoming series sought after “talent who are comfortable with partial or full nudity.”
