Bill Engvall Announces His Farewell Tour, Retirement from Stand-Up Comedy

Comedian Bill Engvall announced his farewell tour, HERE’S YOUR SIGN. IT’S FINALLY TIME, and will wave goodbye to stand-up comedy.

The former Movieguide® Awards Gala host and Grammy-nominated recording artist announced that he plans to retire from his 40-year comedy career.

“I have been blessed with the greatest career anyone could ask for,” Engvall said. “Making people laugh is a dream job and has fulfilled my life in so many ways. I’m excited to focus on future opportunities in entertainment and spend more time with my family. I’m not going anywhere – just hanging up my hat when it comes to sleeping in the airport and in-room dining.”

After Engvall’s final tour, he plans to serve as head auctioneer on a new TV series called BLUE COLLAR AUCTION.

Engvall’s tour begins Aug. 26 in Winterhaven, California, and will end in 2022.

Variety reported:

Engvall was part of the Blue Collar Comedy group, which included Jeff Foxworthy, Larry the Cable Guy and Ron White. The success of that tour led to concert films, recordings and other ancillary things. Engvall also starred in The WB sketch comedy show “Blue Collar TV” and several solo comedy specials for Comedy Central.

More recently, he appeared with Foxworthy and Larry the Cable Guy in 2012’s “Them Idiots Whirled Tour”, and his most recent special “Just Sell Him For Parts” was seen on the streaming site Vudu. Engvall’s other credits include the three-season TBS sitcom “The Bill Engvall Show”; he also played Rev. Paul on Tim Allen’s “Last Man Standing,” hosted several game shows and was a contestant on ABC’s “Dancing with The Stars.”

Engvall, regularly seen on late night talk shows including “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno” and “Late Night with David Letterman,” released his first album “Here’s Your Sign” in 1996; it was certified platinum and hit No. 1 on the Billboard comedy chart for 15 straight weeks. His second album, “Dorkfish,” was released in 1998 and debuted at #1 on Billboard’s comedy chart.

Blue Collar Comedy founder JP Williams, who has worked with Engvall for over 25 years, said that the comedian is “truly one of the best men I have ever had the privilege of working with. His honesty and integrity in both his personal and professional life is second to none, and I have been fortunate to be a part of his incredible journey. There’s simply no one like him.”

Engvall previously opened up to Movieguide® about the key to his success — clean comedy.

“I really haven’t changed that much, because, for whatever reason, I picked up early that my forte was clean, family-based humor,” Engvall said. “Now, tonight, as I understand, is an audience of Hollywood people and not always your best audience for comedy, so I’m not gonna try to force it down their throat. Just gonna go out and do my little thing for a couple of minutes and then just kind of try to keep the show moving, but as far as the entertainment, you know, I’ve always done it the same way and it’s worked and so I’ve just kind of left it alone.”
