Chip Gaines Agrees to Cut His Hair on One Condition

By Movieguide® Staff

After fans showed their displeasure at Chip Gaines’ decision to grow out his hair, the FIXER UPPER star agreed to cut it all off, but at a price.

The Magnolia owner, alongside his wife Joanna Gaines, announced through social media that he would cut his hair if fans rallied together to donate to St. Jude hospital.

“WOW.. turns out some of y’all really don’t like my hair! But I can take it because I’ve been growing it out for a good reason,” Chip said. “So now’s your chance to put your money where your mouth is.. I’m going to cut my hair, and I’m asking you to cut a check—and let’s see if we can raise a boatload of money for the kids at @stjude.”

“The hair’s coming off on Friday, but between now and then, let’s chip in together for a good cause. And when it’s all said and done, I’ll donate my hair to @cwhl_org. Let’s do this! #ChipInForStJude,” he wrote.

“We’ve had some good times.. but now it’s time to raise a ton of money for the kids at @stjude. We’ve got THREE DAYS left people!!” he wrote in a separate post.

As of Aug. 25, fans have chipped in over $220,000 to St. Jude to help aid patients fight and beat cancer.

“Once you meet the kids at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, you can’t forget them. Jo and I have had the honor of visiting a few times over the years, and every time, we leave completely changed. These kids have inspired us time and again with their uncanny strength, radiance, and courage,” Chip wrote on the St. Jude website. “What’s so impressive about St. Jude is the majority of their funding comes from donors. Families never receive a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing or food—because all a family should worry about is helping their child live. And with your help, I want to keep it that way.”

In 2017, Chip and Joanna visited St. Jude and met Bailey, a young boy who has now beat cancer.

Chip and Bailey recently caught up while fishing.

“Jo and I met Bailey back in 2017, and seeing him now as a healthy young man reminds me why we were drawn to St. Jude™️. As if fighting diseases and cancer wasn’t impressive enough, families never receive a single bill,” he wrote.
