SABINA: TORTURED FOR CHRIST, THE NAZI YEARS Tells the Story of God’s Transformational Love

Fathom Events’ next program will feature the true story of Sabina Oster Wurmbrand and her husband, Richard, in the new movie SABINA: TORTURED FOR CHRIST, THE NAZI YEARS.

Sabina and Richard found the nonprofit The Voice of the Martyrs, which seeks to serve Christians persecuted in the global mission field.

“Great character is sometimes forged amid great turmoil. SABINA: TORTURED FOR CHRIST, THE NAZI YEARS is the story of how God’s love transformed an ambitious, atheistic hedonist into one of the greatest Christian women of the 20th century. The film opens with Sabina Wurmbrand risking her life to show Christ’s love to a trio of Nazi soldiers,” The Voice of the Martyr’s description of the movie reads. “Why? Why would a Jewish Christian risk her life to help her enemies – members of the army that killed her entire family? Experience the amazing true story that has redefined the concepts of love and forgiveness for millions around the world.”

The Fathom Event will premiere on Nov. 8-10 in theaters following the International Day of Prayer for Persecuted Christians on Nov. 7.

“Richard and Sabina were exemplary biblical disciples. Their story pushes each of us to rethink our concept of forgiveness and what it looks like to love our enemies as Jesus instructed,” Todd Nettleton, chief of media relations for The Voice of the Martyrs, said while hosting the VOM Radio show. “Sabina’s life is ultimately a testament of how God’s love can transcend pain and struggle—and even transform the lives of those around us. This story is truly inspiring. It will encourage every viewer to be transformed from the inside out by the power of God.”

The movie is set in World War II and highlights the years before and after Sabina and Richard’s conversion.

“Making a period piece like SABINA was a delightful artistic challenge—re-creating what Romania looked like in the 1930s and 40s down to every fine detail like fashion, automobiles and storefronts,” the movie’s director John Grooters said. “But even more substantially, I find Sabina Wurmbrand to be one of the greatest women of the 20th century, and it’s a joy getting to introduce her to modern audiences.”

SABINA’s cast and crew filmed on-site in Romania and earned the Best Feature, Audience Choice, and Best Original Film Score awards at the Christian Worldview Filmmakers Guild and Festival.

The event will also feature an exclusive music video from worship leaders Keith and Kristyn Getty.

“It has been our great privilege to partner with The Voice of the Martyrs on their upcoming film, Sabina: Tortured for Christ, the Nazi Years,” the couple said. “This stirring story of faith and triumph in the midst of adversity and the courage of the Wurmbrands in the face of unspeakable evil is an urgent call to believers everywhere to fight the good fight of faith and build the kingdom of Christ, no matter the opposition. We highly recommend you get your friends, family or church together to share in this amazing experience.”

Nettleton added that he hopes it not only sheds light on Sabina and Richard’s past ministry but the current persecution Christian face every day.

“Religious persecution is real and is still happening today,” Nettleton said. “There are modern-day Richard and Sabina Wurmbrands right now living out their own stories of faith, suffering and forgiveness. As Christians, we must not allow fear to stop us from boldly proclaiming the gospel and extending Christ’s grace and love to all.”
