Wrong Text Results in Ultimate Thanksgiving Tradition – And a New Movie

By Movieguide® Contributor

One of our favorite Thanksgiving mistakes gone right will hit the screens.

Five years ago, Jamal Hinton went viral on Twitter after posting screenshots of a text he got from someone who had the wrong number. Now, the story is getting turned into a Netflix movie.

Wanda Dench, thinking she was texting her grandson, texted Hinton, inviting him to Thanksgiving dinner. Hinton let her know she had the wrong number, then jokingly added, “Can I still get a plate tho?”

Dench responded, “Of course you can. That’s what grandmas do… feed everyone.” Hinton showed up for the holiday meal, and the two struck up a friendship. They have continued to celebrate Thanksgiving together over the years, with Hinton even bringing along his girlfriend. Every year, the pair post a selfie together, making internet users happy to see them continue their relationship.

The internet loved this story of a found-family; the two have 150,000 Twitter followers between them. Hinton and Dench are excited to bring their real-life story to the screen.

In a joint statement, the pair said, “We are excited to share our story with the world,” Dench and Hinton said in a joint statement. “We hope it inspires more people to reach out and make connections that they wouldn’t ordinarily make. We are so blessed to find a genuine friendship brought together by God from a mistaken text message.”

We can’t wait to see Hinton and Dench’s true story of friendship brought to our screens!
